What a game...one of my favorite matches. India were set 219 in 39 overs...tough target, according to Botham and co. in the commentary box. Kanpur pitch was quite slow and India were supposed to have a tough chase. And then Tendulkar and Sehwag wreaked havoc in those first 10 overs - game over. That six off Snape to finish the match was real sweet, what a finish. Unfortunately, this was as good as it would get for India because they took a 3-1 lead in the 6 match series and went on lose the next two so it finished 3-3, much to the annoyance of everyone in the media and the public This was back in the day when Sehwag used to copy Tendulkar (by his own admission) and in this game, it was tough to tell them apart because they were just so similar in their batting stance and movement. I remember going to the next ODI at Delhi, and watching them in the flesh, i couldn't tell them apart. They are completely different players now though. He had scored a fifty in the ODI preceding this one, and after the team saw what he could do at the top of the order here at Kanpur, Sehwag became India's opener in ODIs on a permanent basis. India would shuffle the top order every now and then, continually breaking up the greatest opening pair ever seen in ODIs, because Sehwag HAD to be the opener. Even Tendulkar was moved to #4 in the Natwest Series, ICCT, etc. because Sehwag was always the first choice opener. The rest is history. Thank you Saurav Ganguly and John Wright
