Asif to reach India next week for dope hearing Disgraced Mohammad Asif and his lawyer Hamid Karim are coming to India next week to appear before the Drugs Inquiry Tribunal of the IPL. More... Asif to reach India next week for dope hearing Press Trust Of India Karachi, August 25, 2008 First Published: 21:27 IST(25/8/2008) Last Updated: 21:30 IST(25/8/2008) Disgraced Pakistani pacer Mohammad Asif and his lawyer Hamid Karim are coming to India next week to appear before the Drugs Inquiry Tribunal of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Karim told PTI today that he had asked for some clarifications from the IPL on the doping case of Asif and they would travel to India next week to attend a tribunal hearing. Asif's 'B' sample had also tested positive for the banned substance nandrolone last week in Geneva, Switzerland but the nanogram traces in his urine sample was 5.4, while in his earlier test conducted by the IPL, the nanogram traces came at 6.2. Karim said no decision had been taken as yet when they would file a formal appeal with the IPL tribunal that has Ravi Bapat, vice-chancellor of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, former India Test captain Sunil Gavaskar and Shirish Gupte. The IPL has set up the tribunal to look into Asif's dope flunk. Bapat has said the difference in traces of banned substance found in Asif's sample was not surprising and that he would get a fair hearing from the tribunal. Karim said he would make a formal announcement about the appeal procedure after Asif returns home from Dubai. "We are looking at some technical aspects of the case with the assistance of a British sports medicine and doping expert and we will then file appeal. We have sent a formal request to the IPL for a hearing in which we have informed them that the tests had shown traces of different food in the sample as well."

man, these Paki varieties are amazing. A mere reduction by few points of traces of nandro and he is fancing his chance.:giggle:

For a change it's refreshing to see that BCCI has hired someone with high integrity and social service background. Dr. Ravi Bapat is arguably the best gastroenterologist when he was in KEM hospital, he did a lot of surgeries for poors through Charity orgs in Mumbai.

IPL postpones Asif's hearing The Indian Premier League (IPL) officials have postponed the preliminary its drug inquiry tribunal hearing into the case of Pakistan pacer Mohammad Asif but did not announce any fresh dates. More... IPL postpones Asif's hearing August 29, 2008 13:35 IST The Indian Premier League [images] (IPL) officials have postponed the preliminary its drug inquiry tribunal hearing into the case of Pakistan pacer Mohammad Asif [images] but did not announce any fresh dates. Asif tested positive for a banned substance twice. The IPL had set the date of August 30 for the hearing but postponed it on the request of Asif and his lawyer Shahid Karim. "We had sent them an e-mail requesting for the hearing to be later in mid-September as we are still waiting for some more documentation on the case regarding the procedures adopted to conduct the dope tests on Asif in the IPL. "We have today got a reply from them saying the hearing will not be held on August 30 and they will inform us of a date later on," Karim told PTI. Asif, who is under suspension from the Pakistan Cricket Board for having tested positive for the banned substance during the IPL and also in his "B" sample test, has decided to appeal after the two test results showed discrepancies in the amount of the banned substance found in his urine samples. A leading sports medicine specialist Dr Pervez Rizvi believes that Asif can win his appeal on technical grounds because while the discrepancies is not much but in the past some athletes have been cleared because of the same reason. "When such discrepancies occur in test results, an athlete can appeal and question the testing procedure," Rizvi said. A senior PCB official said the board will not interfere in the Asif case.

Asif to press for 'irregularities' in sample collection The disgraced pacer said he would prove his innocence by pointing out to the IPL Drugs Tribunal the procedural irregularities while taking his sample. More... Asif to press for 'irregularities' in sample collection Press Trust Of India Karachi, September 08, 2008 First Published: 12:58 IST(8/9/2008) Last Updated: 13:06 IST(8/9/2008) Even after his 'B' sample confirmed his dope flunk, disgraced pacer Mohammad Asif said he would prove his innocence by pointing out to the IPL Drugs Tribunal the procedural irregularities while taking his urine sample. Asif's urine sample, taken during an IPL semifinal match, was found positive for nandrolone and his 'B' sample tested in Switzerland confirmed the dope flunk but the traces of the banned substance were of different quantities in the two tests. "I am confident of clearing myself from doping charges. I say this because of unusual circumstances under which my urine sample was taken. There were irregularities I noticed but I will talk about these when I face the tribunal," said Asif who is to appear before an IPL Drugs Tribunal this month. He said he was shocked with disbelief when he first heard of his positive dope test in July. "I just couldn't believe this had happened. That I had tested positive for any banned substance because I have never used any in my life," he said. "I still don't understand why it took one and half months for the IPL to announce the result of my dope test. Results of a dope test are nowadays at the most available in a week. It makes me suspicious," Asif told Daily Express. The pacer also accused some lobby in Pakistan for trying to sully his image and destroy his cricket career. "I know there is a certain lobby which is out to create problems for me. These incidents happening to me have been blown out of proportion by this same lobby which does not want to see me play for Pakistan," he said. "I had come through 19 days in detention in Dubai, which were the most difficult time for me. So, I am not running away from these problems, I will fight."
