Joe Biden, the multiple term senator from the state of Delaware who takes the subway from his D.C. residence to the Senate will be Barack Obama's (opps! Barack HUSSEIN Obama... there happy now Fox News?) running mate. Biden has numerous years of experience in both domestic and foreign policy and while he is not as polarizing a candidate as Hillary Clinton, that might be his very pitfall: He is not as polarizing as Hillary Clinton. Most of my family are traditional Republicans but not in the George Bush, screw the nation kind, more like the Goldwater, small government and smaller taxation government Republicans and thus Center or Center-Right. However, this particular election, there was going to be a mass exodus to the other side with virtually all the women folk voting Blue (inspired of course by Hillary Clinton). However, her absence might prove pivotal. Clinton inspires only two emotions: Either you loathe her since her husband, a much disliked democrat succeeded as one of the finest presidents ever inspite of the myriad of scandals surrounding his genitalia; or you love her for who she is and who her husband is. Heck, one could argue that a vote for Hillary Clinton is virtually a referendum on her husband's years in office. Thus, with her name conspicuously absent from the ticket (Biden had an absolutely absymall showing the primaries, heck even a half humorous, half zealous campaign by Stephen Colbert of the Colbert Report fame succeeded in usurping Biden in a number of states), would the undecided be invigorated enough to vote Blue? Or would McCain's lovable grandfather image (possibly bolstered by Romney's pro business and statuesque candidacy or Huckabees' religious nutjoberry) manage to attract the significant undecided vote? A McCain Presidency has been notoriously pointed out to be a virtual third term for the Bush Administration; a revelation made embarrassingly public on CNN when a member of the McCain campaign, rather high up the pecking order stumbled to find an answer to a question as innocuous as "How would the McCain presidency differ from the current administration's policies?" So the questions loom... was Biden the ideal foil for Obama? and more importantly, what motivated Obama to pick Biden over Richardson, Edwards (probably the scandal if anything), and more poignantly: Clinton??? Maybe i should also include the fact that during the primaries, i was supportive of both the Edwards and the Biden campaigns and while i would have loved a Edwards-Clinton, or Edwards-Obama ticket, i do feel that Obama-Clinton would have proven to be a lot more formidable than Obama-Biden (especially considering that the Gallup polls not display Obama with a mere 6 point lead... the smallest margin for any leading candidate ahead of the elections, irrespective of whether the poll leader won the eventual election or not... heck Kerry lead Bush by 10 points around this time some 4 years back and was absolutely pulverized in the elections which will notoriously be remembered as when the nation granted all forms of government: Legislative, Executive and eventually Judicial to the Republican... an Indian equivalent of which would have given our neoconservative brigade of DR, sandest and what's his face sarchasm some overwhelming orgasms)...

Obama might win handsomely in the northeast and the west coast... but even a marginal victory in the south would grant McCain all the representatives from that state in the House. This is what occurred in the 2000 election... while that election was close, nonetheless, Bush won the election because he secured 50 odd votes more than Gore in a small county full of geriatric farts.

As far as this Biden man is concerned, he has been a foreign policy hawk, he has lead foreign policy committees in amreekan parliament. So his selection by Obama must be noted by Indians....let me recall from Indian perspective, Obama is the main supporter of including "restrictive" clauses in Indo-US nuclear deal, and he gets all his 'foreign" policy info from Biden who is a hawk in these matters. One must remember and acknowledge that President Bush's July-18 agreement was very clean and pro-India, however, democrats and certain non-proleferation dictators in republicans later 'briefed' Chenney and thus that "Hyde" act took shape to cap India. Obama was the leading parliamentarian in supporting "Hyde" act. So far in the history of Indo-US relations, no president has been as good for India as Prez. Bush is. So if Indian origin voters in USA care for Indian interests then they should vote for Republicans, since at present republicans are more PRACTICAL towards India and Indian relations. democrats are like "lip service" with a lot of talks of pseudo-morality and dis-armament preaching when it comes to aiding India at international level. We haven't forgotten Bill Clinton and his "lip service" of sweet talks and do nothing concrete to strengthen Indo-US relations.

He is smart, articulate(remember his Guliani description? ), has experience and overall has a personality that demands attention. During the prelims of Democrat primary his opinion were often the best and certainly most listened to. And even more happy that Obama did not fell for Hillary.

I think you got it all confused. You meant Indian citizens supporting Obama remains a mystery to you. Actually there is no mystery. It is rather simple, and logical. Anyone who lives in USA currently, whether citizen or not, dislike Bush and everything that Republican stand for. Even if you forget for a moment the chest thumping Evangelical perpetrating religious right here is what affects every single Indian citizen working in USA: a) Rising cost of fuel and its affect on the dwindling savings. b) Uncertain economy and uncertain environment for most of Indians. c) Falling exchange rate of Dollars, combined with inflation in India, resulting in less Remittance for home. d) All mouth and no action on Immigration. To be frank I am surprised that YOU just dont get any of this! xxx

Hey Lurker you recall when Biden called Obama "articulate"? that pretty much ended his campaign, and this is rather ironic that it is Obama who might just pave the way for Biden to be president in the next eight years.

Joe Biden supported the fragmentation of both Iraq and Pakistan into smaller states since he felt that these nations had cosmetic boundaries defined not by the locale opinion but by their colonial masters. Furthermore, there has not been a single democrat who has not supported India overwhelmingly. Just come out of the closet and say it: you want people to elect McCain since he would continue this war of aggression against islamic states in the middle east, and well you would rather see Americans do the dirty deeds you fantasize about.

The drilling off shore will not impact current oil prices by means of increasing production, but it will drive the price down by upseting the speculation market that is marking up the price of oil on the basis of the assumption that oil production will be sparse in the future. Hence, if this speculation can be checked by means of regulations that were in place prior to 2001 when Bush fracked it all up (starting with Enron), the oil price would tumble in a matter of hours. As for the rest... this thread was not intended as what will Joe Biden do for India... that is not his job, it was to gauge the opinion of the local population vis a vis the vice president nominee. But the neoconservative brigade successfully hijacked it.
