Why are these called combination locks instead of permutation locks? (SERIOUS)

because unlocking or rather decoding this lock would require you to go through the various permutations through which the numbers could be arranged. for instance, if i asked you that was are the possible different codes that can be made from 3 digits without repeating, the answer is 10*9*8 or rather "P(10,3) or 10 permutation 3".

Looks like somebody started learning basic discrete math :--D
not sure if that is correct field, discrete math is an introduction to analysis and abstract algebra. the subject matter here would more relevantly fall under the category of "probability and statistics"
