Living in Vancouver Lower Mainland still haven't learnt anything about the Sikh religion? White people here know about the Sikh religion than you. This is common sense man. Some people in any community do not like to follow what their religion says. So, people who cut their hair, its all their wish and its their decision. Do you or other Hindus follow exactly what your religion says? I don't think so. If you see a lot of people who cut their hair is also because when they came to Canada about 40 years ago, things weren't the best. There was a lot of racism. To live a peaceful life, they decided to cut their hair. Its not that they are not proud of it, its that they had to. And once again, its THEIR decision. And before pointing out flaws in other people, one should look at itself.

Mate , we all know what u mean when u say innocents were killed by security forces during the clean up but that was not because they were sikh that is because of corruption in the system. It still happens everyday in India.

Myth 1: Every Indian supported the modus-operandi of KPS Gill. Of course not. I personally resent how he has dug Indian hockey in the ground, how he spanked a senior women IPS officer's behind and got away with it etc etc. However do I support what he did in Punjab? You bet your bum I do. In 20 years after KPS Gill took charge of Punjab, Punjab is one of the richest and most prosperous state of India. And while historically Punjab has always been well-off it is also true that the current generation enjoys unprecedented prosperity. And in many ways Punjab's economic model is better than any other state of India. It is not like a Andhra Pradesh model where Lehmann Brothers bankruptcy has send shivers down the spine of Satyam Computers. It is unlike Karnataka model where Wipro and Infosys are already debating the impact of Merryl Lynch merger and HP layoffs. Punjab's economy is very Indian - agriculture, good roads, industries - and I would be interested if you can show me that this would have been possible with KPS Gill and JF Ribero. Does that mean I support hauling off innocents? Of course not. No sane person will do that. What I do support is what KPS Gill did to the terrorists, a la Sean Connery from Untouchables - They show you a knife, you show them a gun. They put a man of yours in hospital, you put 2 of their in the morque. Myth 2: Punjabis did everything on their own and rest of the country watched in glee. Here is something you may want to check with your parents, or people who trust. How many Biharis were killed in Punjab during its darkest hour? These Biharis were essentially migrant workers who went to Punjab to save money and send back home. They were also the first in the line of terrorist fire. So when you ask - Why didnt media cover Sikh blah blah, I ask where the hell is SIkh media covering what happened to Biharis??? If you can show me even a remote article by a Babbar Khalsa, a Khalistan Liberation Organization...heck even Akalis as to the number of Biharis slaughtered in Punjab and how Punjab is appreciative of it, I will see your viewpoint. As it is Sikhs are quick to play the victim card when it comes to Sikh riots but have little or no clue as to how many Biharis were killed. Admit it you yourself would have no idea of Bihari angle till I brought this up(right now that is). Myth 3: Indian media did not cover what happened in Punjab. I have touched upon it a few times but I am sure you disagree with most of it. While most of your lack of knowledge is due to you being rather young, it also is because you have not done your homework. For example, my favorite writer/author Gulzar had made a movie on the causal issues of Punjab terrorism post Indira Gandhi assasination in mid 90s. It was called Maachis. As was expected the movie ran into censor issues(not unlike a Parzania or a Black Friday) but it was duly released and very well received, although not a commercial success. Most people of my generation would remember it for its song - Chor aaye hum woh galiyaan, literally meaning We have left our old ways(a symbol of young people taking to terrorism). Dude, i too live in Vancouver and trust me when i say you do *not* want to be using Vancouver/Surrey Sikhs as a benchmark/guide for Sikh religion. Its not too far off removed from the HAMAS/HEZBOLLAH mentality/actions. There are Gurdwaras in Surrey that still fly the Khalistani flag, have very nice things to say about terrorists like Bhindranwala or Talwinder Singh Parmar, who is as pucca terrorist as one gets. Its not that they are not proud of it, its that they had to. More like, it is a pain in the *****. Many/most sikhs here cut their hair short- hell, long hair (amongst men) is not a very common sight in vancouver by western standards : I too had long hair when i moved here ( shoulder length- i am not sikh, i just grew it long) but this is actually a rainforest : we get an insane amount of rain and having long hair in a rainy damp climate is a real pain in the butt, especially if you have super-thick hair like Indians usually do.

panesarv Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 I know some stuff about Biharis too. Punjabi farmers would mix drugs in bihari workers' food/tea so that they could work longer. I know how unfair Punjabis are to Bihari....beat them up and all that stuff for no reason. They are very unfairly treated. During my time, I don't know of any Bihari slaughtering (perhaps not as big as the Sikh riots). I also know about the Machis movie, just, that haven't watched it till now. Never saw many movies in India. Downloaded last month...will watch for sure... Also, I completely disagree with whatever BS CC1981 said. Not true at all. Been in Vancouver for 4 years [travelling in buses everything...snow..rain..sun..doesn't matter] Have got my head wet once...and that was in swimming pool. CC1981 there is something called a jacket. About people saying good stuff about the "terrorists" [heard that in the news right?].....Families whose 21 year old sons were killed during that time will support who? the government? hindus? or the ones who fought against the government? People who are hurt deep down after 1984 will obviously support them. Stop following media blindly. Have some feelings. Put some insight in your thoughts. Just to make it clear, I don't support Khalistan or anything like it.
