^ Is that your opinion or do you have some inside information? :winky: I hope its true and he is next in line, because it would be unfair if Yuvraj or Rohit Sharma (even though I think the kid is a freak) get a spot ahead of Badrinath.
It CAN happen, because you see, we play the ODIs against Eng first I think. And Yuvraj or Rohit, if they get a spectacular 100, or more, obviously due to form considerations they can break in too ahead of Badri, and it may also not be unfair. In the past, several players have broken into the test 11 because of ODI performance, including Gambhir's 100s in Aus CB series helping him. But often you wont see the reverse happening, that is , someone breaking into the ODI team because of test performances

Yeah thats what Im worried about ... Yuvraj is a fine ODI player (when in form) ... but he isnt in form at the moment. However, I dont think he has the technique to last in Test cricket (his technique may improve in the future, but at present I dont think it is good enough) ... and a couple of quick fire 70s or 80s wont change that. Rohit on the other hand has a very good technique and has temperament and maturity well beyond his years ... however he probably needs a few big scores under his belt in first-class cricket before being selected in the Test side. A few ODI fifties shouldnt change that fact. Badrinath should get the first go regardless of the performances of Yuvraj and Rohit in the ODIs.

He (Badri) is in the squad currently, so I think he is in-place to replace SG. Fontaine, Gambhir still needs to prove himself in Test matches in Aus, Eng, SA etc. That said, I hope he succeeds well. However, finding batsmen who succeed in middle order or #3 position in such places is tough. Not sure if Raina, Badri et.al. are going to do that in near future.
I think someone like VVS Laxman should eventually move in to the no.3 position. Once he steps down I would imagine Badrinath could move there. As for the no.4 position .. in most teams the no.4 is filled by your best strokeplayer ... so I'd imagine in 4 or 5 years time Rohit Sharma will take over that spot. Manoj Tiwary is another who could fill that role. Dhawan and Raina could fill out the remaining middle-order positions. Also, if Irfan Pathan can transform himself into a batting all-rounder then he boosts his chances of being selected in the future.

I think dravid will announce soon if not before nagpur game then definetly eng series will be the last. Laxman will be around for a few more yrs sachin wont retire till someone throws hm out
One of the stupidest comments I have ever read here. Sachin is in the team because he DESERVES to be. If Rahul is not thrown out yet despite being the weakest link for 2 yrs, doubt Sachin will be. Gosh, if you gus had been Australians, McGrath, Gilchrist and Hayden would all have been forced to retire around the 2005 Ashes time and Asutralia would not have won the 2007 world cup. Gilly and Hayden went through a much worse form for about a 2 yrs period than Sachin did in the past 2 years

Badri is certainly next in line' date=' no doubts about it. Considering his performances in Ranji and India A for last 3 seasons continuously, he will be given next 2 series to settle down as a regular middle order batter. Even in ODIs he had shown in SL, he can play the important phases of a match with a cool head, he has the talent and temperament for this level, and is a sure candidate very soon[/quote'] So how come Vijay was selected for the final test instead? Also Badri has been dropped from the ODI squad against England and Vijay has taken his spot!

Vijay has been selected in ODI team, based on his recent Challengers trophy performances, and also the fact if there is any injury to GG or Sehwag, we may need a specialist opener, as Sachin too is not there now. Also, as he is making his test debut, the selectors probably want him to be part of the dressing room and gain as a result, because there is a full test series coming up where Vijay will certainly get to play 1-2 tests.

Yeah dont understand why Badrinath was dropped. Although Badrinath is a much better player in the longer format.
Its not that Badri was dropped, just that there were other better claimants to that spot now. Also Badri didnt get many runs in Challengers trophy which was the most recent selection criterion for those not automatic selections.
