Not tabloid news guys....I know that 2 days before the Kotla test, top Intelligence bureau officials had a closed door meeting with Sachin, Ganguly and Dhoni, and have apparently advised them of some basic precautions that they and their family members ( wife children) should be taking. In fact I had come to know that these cricketers had been asked if they could arrange for immediate family to stay abroad for 2 years or educate kids abroad for sometime.

Threat to Sachin was just an intel faux pas NAGPUR: It is one incident that would raise a fresh question mark over the ‘intelligence inputs’ that various agencies routinely receive. On Sunday, the Nagpur police tightened the security arrangements being made for the Indian and Australian teams arriving in the city on Monday for the fourth Test. This was done in view of specific intelligence input that terrorist outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed might try to target Sachin Tendulkar. This was carried by a section of the media and understandably raised concerns everywhere. However, by Monday evening, the city police chief Praveen Dixit had a lot of explaining to do. Apparently, the city police’s special branch which looks after the intelligence gathering and interpretation had goofed up by simply dusting up an old 2006 memo and circulating it as new. An embarrassed Dixit told the media there was no threat to any individual player or team. "The security arrangement has been drawn up keeping the general threat perception in view which existed from the first day of the series and not just the Test match in the city," he emphasised. It turned out that SB had managed to dig out a ‘threat’ of 2006 when central intelligence and interrogation details of some suspects in 7/11 bomb blast in Mumbai had indicated that there was a threat on Tendulkar, Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Mukesh Ambani. Tendulkar’s security was stepped up following the report.

No...it has been on for 8 months, I hear, and even if the state police had made a faux paus now, I know for certain that the central IB has been seriously talking to Dhoni, Sachin and Ganguly. In fact that was one of the reasons for Dhoni's security being heghtened, Ganguly's daughter receiving a threat of kidnap etc. This is very serious.
