that a captain is as good as his team. Both Ponting's and MSD's team were ordinary. (Unless one really is a great thinking captain one cannot contribute too much on the field just via captaincy).

Dont jump at the first available opportunity. A captain's success in terms of match winning is definitely limited by the overall ability of the team. But that does not mean that anyone can captain the team and it does not matter. Thats idiotic. One captain can motivate better and extract more from the players than other captains. Dhoni is a much better captain than Kumble.

Absolutely. Not going in with a specialist spinner for test match in India is one of the most retarted things a captain can do.
