Desi Cartman Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 BHUBANESWAR: An angry mob of commuters lynched an Army jawan after he tried to stop them entering the reserved coach of a train at Lingaraj railway station on the outskirts of Orissa's capital late on Monday night. Sources said Anish Kumar A, a cook with the Gorkha Rifles, was beaten to death by the passengers who were trying to enter the compartment of Howrah-Chennai Coromandel Express, which was moving slowly on the platform. One of the commuters allegedly attacked the jawan with a knife. Passengers of the compartment were also beaten up when they tried to pacify the attackers. Police said despite the incident, the train did not stop at Lingaraj station. "When the train stopped just before Khurda Road station, hundreds of locals joined the attackers. The jawan tried helplessly to save himself from the mob which dragged him out of the coach and thrashed him mercilessly,'' a police officer said. The soldier was first taken to the divisional railway hospital at Khurda Road station and later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, where the doctors declared him dead. Nobody has been arrested so far, railway police said. Panic-stricken passengers shut windows and doors of the compartment as the mob tried to throw in burning tyres. "They even tried to set ablaze the coach,'' the police officer said. With blood oozing from his face, Anish cried for help. But nobody came to his rescue. After a while, the mob left presuming him dead. "We have registered a case, but no arrest has been made yet. An investigation is on,'' inspector of government railway police L R Panda said. why do people behave this way... I dont get ... Poor guy died for no bloody reason

Sometimes I do get envious of the many folks I see who live in their own little world and have no idea about whats going on around or can simply ignore it. Ignorance is a bliss I guess and detachment must be a heavenly feeling.
