fineleg Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Policemen (9 of them) watching brutal fight!!! This is older news from end of 2008 - but I was so sick of it I could not get to posting it then. Law college students - shame on all those ba$tards involved in this Dr. Ambedkar law College in the heart of Chennai witnessed a gruesome rioting on Wednesday in future lawyers were seen fighting among themselves with lathis, canes, knives and even rods. It was an unbelievable sight when beamed through the news channels in the evening. The particular sight of one student being mercilessly beaten up with rods and sticks by fellow students even after he was down and wounded, was gruesome and pathetic. More appalling and distressing being the presence of police watching haplessly near the scene of the crime and not preventing the attack on the students on the pretext that the college authorities have not "invited" them to enforce order. What one can saw when law enforcement become a spectator sport. Turning themselves into ringside spectators, policemen remained unmoved by the ghastly exhibition of violence before their eyes, ostensibly because they were not "invited" to perform their duties. What a shame that the gruesome acts of violence was being perpetrated and the policemen were mute spectator to it. Rightly, the Chief Minister sacked the Principal for his failure to get police protection in the campus especially when he was well aware of the impending violence between two groups of students and he had no reasonable explanation for the delay in calling for police assistance. The Chief Minister has also shifted the City Police Commissioner Mr.R. Sekar and several other policemen for their inaction and ordered a judicial enquiry into the incident. It is true that students resist the presence of policemen in their campus in normal circumstances and they enter the campus only after the authorities foresee any trouble and request for assistance. But what was disturbing was that both the Principal and the Police of the area were aware of the impending clashes as the rivalry was brewing in the campus for the past ten days between two groups over the printing of an invitation. But what prevented them from thwarting the attack on a student who was down and injured but beaten mercilessly by rods and sticks by fellow students one after another. Doctors attending on him and others wondered how the boy survived despite such gruesome beating. The relatives of the victims are sore about the police apathy. The cascading effect is seen with violence in other colleges across the state. The political leadership of the state cannot escape the responsibility altogether. The Assembly was in session not very far away from the scene of rioting and the message sent to all concerned but fearing political backlash, nobody seem to have intervened to prevent the clashes. The politicians are as much responsible for the lapses as the policemen who were watching as ringside spectators. Law enforcement should not be a spectator sport. The police action or restraint in the present democracy depends upon the attitude of the govt of the day towards law enforcement as serious or lukewarm. If this is the attitude of the law enforcing agency, it is highly reprehensible as they are suppose to act according to the situation to bring order without waiting for a nod from their political bosses. In any case, what is worrisome and alarming being the attitude of the future lawyers to settle caste differences in the campus of temple of learning.

Guest Hiten. Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Law students fighting over caste's ? Who the bloody ***ing idiot gave these morons admission in law school in the first place ? Quite pathetic. The less we talk about our how morons are handed over the reigns of 'protecting' law is better.
Desi Cartman Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 well if politicians go out and ask for voters to vote based on their caste ... try to appease one community then it only makes things worse.

Yes - it is shameful that these morons are the ones supposedly "educating themselves" to help ensure justice is provided to citizens! I still cannot believe that all the policemen turned into ringside spectators and WATCHED this thing. I think 9 of them are suspended and inquiry ordered. Why did they not stop the fight - or did they have "orders" from politicians to not interfere?
