He is not able to access the net, even though I am able to and his system is showing that he is connected to the net. I am even able to ping to a website successfully. Actually his system is throwing the following error when I try to open an internet browser. C:\Windows\system32\WINNSI.DLL is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. By the way he initially had vista home edition which he replaced with XP home edition and finally he replaced that with 64 bit Vista Ultimate edition. I tried searching for help on the net, but no luck as such. HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP.

DomainK Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 It should not....to the best of my knowledge. The versions of Vista and the service pack must be the same though. I have done it a lot in the past....but never with Vista. A DLL file usually contains vital commands for windows to function. You can say it provides the code for windows to run when a user issues a command. It may or may not take an argument from the registry and the OS but even if it does, it will not make any difference. Your DLL is anyways corrupt. Nothing worse would happen I guess if you replace it. But then, you never know.
nikred Posted April 7, 2009 Author Posted April 7, 2009 Its not letting me replace. Its just not giving me permission to do so. I changed the permission setting so that the user has full control over the folder but still no luck. It just says ACCESS DENIED.:((
DomainK Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 There is no solution for a corrupt file. Especially given that windows is not generating an error number. Run a full chkdsk and then insert the Vista cd and let windows repair itself. That may be the solution.

cochise Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 You can also try system backup and restore and restore to a system restore point earlier than the appearance of the problem (assuming you have not disabled the system restore service that runs). dial_100 Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Make sure if the NSI Proxy service is running. Also if this system file is having a problem then your network connections wont work, I think because of DHCP client. Now I am not sure what is causing this issue. May be you are trying to use 32-bit drivers for your NIC on Vista 64. That is just a guess. As you are saying it is fresh install that means there not much that he could have messed up yet. I would check drivers first. Let me know how it goes...
