1) MySQL will get screwed most likely. 2) SQL server will have a tougher fight on hand thanks to Oracle merging technology with Sun(specially those SQL server environments running on Sun), same with DB2. 3) Most companies with become either a SAP shop or an Oracle shop or IBM DB2. Get ready for monopolization. 4) Oracle will place Open Office in top arena to take on Microsoft Office. 5) Finally Sun's Java will most likely get screwed after screwing the IT industry totally for 10 years plus.

I will be minority on this one but personally I do feel Java based technology has adversly affected IT. The very same reason that makes it a plus works against it. For example mobility. Java has obviously greatly helped the Internet technology but it is still freaking immature. After 10 years the Business Intelligence arena still struggles with this. Whatever tool you use the reliability is lot more when it is 2-tier. The moment it becomes 3-tier it becomes an Administrator's nightmare. Having said that it is going to be the future so no point pondering about 2 tier architecture anymore :((
