It's not just Anil Kumble but a heap more players have had to bear Kapil Dev and his antics. He's not really regarded as a good bloke. I won't name the player but when he had to go out as 12th man and didn't have a spare trouser he was asked to wear Kapil's and get on to the field. When Kapil Dev came to know of this, he wanted the youngster to bugger off the field and take off the trouser. He still hates Kapil Dev. Don't make assumptions I hate him though, he was a great entertainer and is among one of my favorites.

Definitely not but he was Azhar's darling in the first few years. Tendulkar was used as a bowler, promoted in the order and was treated well. The same cannot be said about say Kambli who was equally talented. That said Tendulkar was one of "The most" dedicated player and would have been taken good care of by most.

Cliche: A cliché (from French, pronounced [kli'ʃeɪ]), or cliche, is a saying, expression, or idea which has been overused to the point of losing its original meaning, rendering it a stereotype, especially when at some earlier time it was considered distinctively meaningful or novel. In just a few posts, you've mentioned "fight/er" or "fighting spirit" about Ganguly at least 9 times by my count independantly (seperate to posts that I specifically called it tired and overused and you responded). I made my point. It's another cliche in a world of cliches used to describe cricketers when you don't have anything original to add. I am convinced ... you believe in running by the watch ... and hence so obsessed with the numbers ... however ... thank u for at least reading the post .. and commenting. :winky:

Kapil Dev commented heaps about people that discouraged him when he started, he's a hypocrite then. A waste of time ended up overtaking Kapil Dev's record in bowling, perfect reply. Secondly it was the first ever series in which Anil played along side Kapil Dev (1989-90 series) was the comment made. How would Kapil Dev know about Kumble in the very first series? Either way I'm glad he was made to eat his words. As far as the 12th man? If I was captain of the team and some clown came on the field wearing my trousers then I'd tell him to bugger off as well. All I can comment about Kapil at the twilight of his career was that ... he was nothing but a team backage .. who was carried in every test .. so that he could make his world record of 432 wickets and leave!!! There are a few cricketers in Indian cricket who retired with grace ... Sunil Gavaskar, Anil Kumble and Sourav Ganguly. :band:

I'm not saying Kapil was right, a hypocrite or whatever, I just think it's interesting you jump at looking at it in a negative point of view based on one side of the story. I mean that's like saying someone thinks you're a **** before meeting you based on rumour/speculation etc. If you need an example? Just look at the guy bowing down and worshipping Ganguly in this thread. When it's a story about Ganguly being too proud to be 12th man etc, then it's not Ganguly but the rest of the world, other jealous cricketers, the BCCI etc etc that are at fault. I wonder if the same benefit of doubt applies to other non-bengali cricketers.

FYI I'm not speculating or going by rumours but have heard it first hand from some players whom I catch up with every other year.
