It's interesting...being a guy who's still stuck in the 90's and regularly watches Bulls games on youtube, I'm a HUGE fan of Michael Jordan. The problem is it's 2009 and Jordan's retired, and while everyone else moved on, I didn't. So this winter I started to watch more basketball. The teams changed, the players changed, the rules changed (hand checking). Talking with a bunch of people, including my teammates and a couple of older guys who've been watching basketball from the 80's, they feel Kobe Bryant is a hands down better version then Michael Jordan. My immediate reaction was...yeah right. But I decided to watch before I made any concrete answer on the question. After looking at both of them play, I can safely say that Michael Jordan is hands down the better player, both offensively and defensively. Reasons? Jordan was the game's best offensive and defensive player...at the SAME time. He won an MVP and DPOY in the same YEAR. Is that not ridiculous? Look at the FG%, Jordan shot over 50% for his career, Kobe hasn't even come close. And let's not even talk about defense. What are your thoughts?

there is only one Jordan.he was the ultimate clutch player-much more so than Kobe.the level of competition jordan played against was also much better than kobe faces right now.having said all that kobe would have won all those championships with the Bulls with the same team.they were incredible role players and were much much better than what Kobe has to play with.Kukoc, rodman, pippen, kerr, harper were great at what they did.

I dont know the technicalities in BB but for me Jordan is a joy to watch. I stopped watching NBA when he retired i.e. when he played that one season for Washington Wizards.

I like Steve Kerr a lot. He comes up with the 3pointer at crucial moments, great shooter he is.

For crying out loud, Kobe got outplayed by Pierce in the last year's finals against Boston. MJ would have never been outplayed by any other player during his prime. Kobe has better range but MJ is stronger and is a better finisher. MJ >>> fake black mamba !

He averaged around 22.7 points , 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals during MJ's absence in 94 /95.

I think the Magic will take it in 6

I also feel that the way lebron is going, if he keeps it up, he is going to knock MJ off his perch.

never got to watch MJ in his prime...just some highlights for his performance here and there... saw him play when he came back again at 40 something, and played for wizards... you could just see the class.. what a player.. kobe is a lil drama queen... lebron can get to MJ level, but needs work on his jump shot.. cowboys fan- dude MJ had pipen.. kobe had shaq... MJ/pipen went on to win like 6 titles...while kobe being selfish that he is, didnt make the most of it and ran shaq outta town. Kobe cant play with real talent around him cus it has to be all about him

He also needs to improve his FG%. Jordan shot .515 as a Bull. Take away his games in Washington and Jordan was averaging 33 a game almost, current average being 30.1. At this stage in their careers, Jordan was still much better then James. It'll be interesting to see what he does if he gets a better supporting cast, but it's going to take a superman like effort to knock MJ off #1.

Really? This lineup, Shaq, Malone, Horry, Kobe, Payton played together in 2004. Those are 5 hall of famers! Kobe had Shaq, and a dominating big man is such a plus. Jordan had Longley, who was dependable from outside but terrible on defense, and Medical Bill Cartright, who was awful offensively, but could play decent defense. None of them even compare with Shaq. The 96 team was stacked, with Rodman as well. But the first threepeat was Jordan, Pippen, Grant. Pau Gasol would kick Grant's ass anyday. Pippen was the only one who can't be measured. He was such a big reason the bulls were a dynasty.
