I am not sure if I would ever want to read an essay lasting 14 pages, and that comes from a person who loves reading. Ms Roy would do well to be concise in her thoughts or most people wont read past the first paragraph.

I am amazed she is still considered an intellectual by quite a few.

All I could fathom is that democracy = freedom = capitalism = Hindu communalism in her retarded logic. For a person who has problems with just about everything under the sun has she ever proposed a sane solution to any issue? Except for moronic ones like giving up Kashmir?

She used to be good till a few years back. I have met her at the Inter University Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics(IUCAA) at Pune. I was there on a summer research project and she was staying there as part of her Narmada movement. It's a pretty small place with a total of 40-50 people at any given time, so you eventually end up sharing the table with everyone for lunch/dinner at the cafetaria over a few weeks. She had done very thorough and solid research on the subject - interacted with top level scientists on the issue of large dams etc. and had genuine alternatives in place for the relocation project (which BTW has still left 300,000+ people landless and homeless and no one talks about them anymore). These days I feel she has just become completely bitter with the entire set up and just writes up long criticisms on everything associated with the government without any proper research or presenting any viable alternatives. For starters, does she even ponder over the question what will happen to the people of Kashmir if left independent under the Wahabis and extremists forget about the question of Kashmiri Pundits.

WTF...If she is not proud of India, then she should not be here. There is always the padosi who seem to be quite happy about her writings. Take a look at any of their forums, and Arundhati Roy is the most respected writer. She is plain dumb i would say. For god sake she has the freedom to criticize and doent she think it is democracy. She should first live in Afghanistan or Pakistan to experience the true democracy set up and liberal values. Pls deport her...
