How to start a series

Recommended Posts

Since the 2005 Ashes, these are the test series Ricky Ponting has played in. These have been his scores in the opening test of each series (ignoring the one-off 'SuperTest' where he did well with 100 runs in the 2 innings): v. West Indies at Brisbane, 2005: 149 and 104* v. South Africa at Perth, 2005: 71 and 53 v. South Africa at Cape Town, 2006: 75 and 1 v. Bangladesh in Fatullah, 2006: 23 and 118* v. England in Brisbane, 2006: 196 and 60* v. Sri Lanka in Brisbane, 2007: 56 v. India in Melbourne, 2007: 4 and 3 v. West Indies in Kingston, 2008: 158 and 5 v. India in Bangalore, 2008: 123 and 17 v. New Zealand in Brisbane, 2008: 4 and 17 v. South Africa in Perth, 2008: 0 and 32 v. South Africa in Jo'burg, 2009: 83 and 25 v. England at Cardiff this week: 150 Amazing record. In those 13 'opening' tests of series, he's scored 7 centuries and a bunch more fifties; the only really notable failures against significant opposition were at Melbourne against India and at Perth against South Africa. The rest of the time his leadership by example with the bat has been amazing - he's one of those players who can be counted on to really make a significant contribution to hit the opposition hard the moment a series starts.

so.. what have you contributed to the site by starting this thread.. and can you be a little more cultured in your response to posters who dont necessarily share the same opinion like you.. :dontknow: why u r getting agitated for no reason.
I'm hardly agitated, just tired of irritating, close-minded little idiots on this board who only seem to make this site more painful to read with those sorts of idiotic comments. Some people here actually post some interesting things; facts, interesting cricket trivia/statistics, occasionally a few good writeups and long posts. The OP - in case your reading skills aren't yet evolved enough to comprehend it - happens to highlight Ponting's form and prowess at the very start of any series he's played in. Not anything inappropriate for the forum, and hopefully an interesting point of discussion for posters a bit more open minded than yourself who can actually discuss cricket rather than complaining like that. A statistical quirk perhaps; it might interest some people, it might not interest others. If you have a problem with it, once again, how about you **** off and find some place else to whine instead of derailing a thread meant to be about cricket?
