I remember the time back in the day when I would prowl through international news reports for a mention of India to no avail and any such mention was scarce and wouldnt fail to mention grinding poverty in passing. Apparently you were not looking hard enough. 80s was well replete with India's NAM connection (for example). Its always great to see contemprory India doing good but whats with the atitude of kicking your own past?

Articles in the past didnt fail to mention poverty, hence any reference to India would invariably refer to poverty as well, making an unfavorable impression of the country in the eyes of many around the world.

NAM was very relevant for the time when the world was split between Nato and Warsaw countries. Poverty in India is still very much a factor, notwithstanding the noveau mindset of rich Indians. What you are asserting here is that Indian Armed forces being invited to Bastille parade is somehow an indicator of how far we have come. Does that really make any sense at all? If the parade did not happen would it change a thing as far as India's progress is concerned?

The world has been taking notice of our economic and military might, and that makes very proud of my country and its accomplishments. Just to note - I would be much prouder if this news article was about poverty elimination, upliftment of downtrodden castes etc....but we'll get there...for now, enjoy this.:isalute:

I would just view it as plain market economics. Not denying the fact that India has definitley progressed hugely since the 70s and 80s.

This is how the arabs think about the west, don't go down the same road. Let people respect you for your accomplishents and not your wealth. The French have just returned the honour accorded to the French President Nicolas Sarkozy on January 26, 2008.
Anonymous Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 Whatever might be the intentions of the French and regardless of what people think about the contracts angle, I got goosebumps watching the 400 Indian soldiers marching down the Champs d'Elysé. Especially the Maratha Light Infantry and the Naval personnel stole the show with their colourful attire :isalute:

But the French Army didnt step foot on Indian soil right? Thats the difference between that honor and this one. Indian soldiers spilled blood fighting for France in EVERY war on the continent , heck even in the Crimean War there were Sikh soldiers fighting on the side of England and France.
