Sachinism
2nd vid. Isn't it a bad idea to tell the kid to back away for every shot. He seems to be timing them fair enough, but at one point he is told to block and that too he backs away and the ball goes in the air. Don't bring up Sehwag, he is something else. But I don't think its the ideal way to be training a kid.

But I don't think its the ideal way to be training a kid.[/quote'] There are quite a few things wrong with the boy. If you have noticed, all the balls offered to him are half volleys. His sense of timing depends entirely on the timing of the bounce. That makes it easy. That is how most coaches start coaching though....since short pitched ones, even slightly short, will probably bounce over his head. But whats wrong is the way he is playing them. He should be taught to bring the front foot out to the pitch of the ball, keep the elbow straight, balance the head right and play the shots. On the contrary, he is just backing off and swinging an angled bat at the point of bounce. He has no idea about front foot or back foot, something that should be taught as early as possible. The first boy, however, is facing all kinds of deliveries and has got his basics quite right. He is amazingly compact for his age and can deal with bouncing deliveries.....though he is playing them all uppishly, he can not help it because of his short height. He will learn to play the short deliveries better when he grows in height, but his concepts of what should be played on front foot and what should be played on the back foot is quite strong. Also he is an excellent judge of the length and gets into position quite early. Hope he is in good hands for the next decade.
