Ian Chappell sets new standards for stupidity

Re: Ian Chappell sets new standards for stupidity

murali and vaas both are playing in Ireland game.. :lmao: :lmao:
On a related note: Why is losing a game by resting key players termed as strategy while losing a game for money termed as match fixing?? I mean if in the end the idea was to lose a game why should it matter? :chin:
because here you are losing a battle to win a war.. compare to you are losing as a traitor to the county...

Hmmm..Okay so what if in the situation(as that of SL) the players decide to throw the game while making some mullah as well? The result doesnt matter(to them), they can play without risking injuries and still make a lot of money. Is that match fixing then or is that a strategy? xxx

Re: Ian Chappell sets new standards for stupidity SL have done smart things.. They rested them for one game..and they knew they have one more game against Irish to bring them back...It was like extended net session for Vaas and Murli..before semis they needed to get some mileage behind them..and thats what they did.. I am sure SL would have rested them even if they have played Ireland game before Australia.. The key is you dont want to rest your players for long...

Re: Ian Chappell sets new standards for stupidity

Lurker' date=' teams have been resting players for ages. That doesn't mean that the XI on the field isn't performing to their best ability or have thrown the match away.[/quote'] Shwetabh. Yes teams have been resting players but teams do not rest their key players in a game knowing fully well that a win or loss will impact the semi-final line-up. Not without knowledge anyway. With Malinga out, resting Vaas and Murali meant only one thing - SL will lose. I mean who amongst us expects a bowling line-up of Maharoof/Fernando/Bandara to defeat Australia?? One way to look at this is to think Mahela wants to hold back his aces(read Murali and Vaas) till an absolute crunch situation against Aussies. Other way to look at it is to ensure SL lose so they do not play Aussies until finals. Regardless it is fair to say that resting Murali/Vaas against Aussies and playing them against Ireland(within a matter of 48 hours) seems more like a well thought strategy than merely matter of rest. xxxx

^They could still have played Vaas and Murali and deliberately underperformed to lose if that was the plan. In that case no one would have questioned their strategy.
Not quite. A player of the calibre of Murali(and perhaps Vaas too) is not going to play only to be spanked around. Specially against Aussies. He is going to be ultra-competitive. And even if they play and under-perform, say end up with figures of 10-0-61-1 what good does that do to their confidence/pscyche? If anything it would only boost Aussie batsman's confidence. xxx
