What about spectators who have bought their tickets in advance and planned it out?
How does Australia plan the Best of 3 finals? how does MLB or NBA plan their finals?? can't that same concept be replicated in Cricket? The point I am trying to make is... this will make the competitions a little more fierce. Teams will not get the opportunity to "play for pride"... whatever that means?? As if your pride is not at stake if you loose the series but your pride is at stake if you loose the dead rubber...

The Aussie CB series is the only exception and even that has been shelved now. And the venue of the third final was sometimes the same as second and would have had staged many games early in the season anyways. You can't compare MLB/NBA - all those matches are played at the same or two grounds and the spectators are guranteed to get a few games in a season. What about venues like Cochin, for example, which host an ODI every 2-4 years, what are you going to tell the spectators and the stadium authorities - come back 4 years later? Anyways, in tests all teams give their best even in dead rubbers and play their best XI and even a dead rubber is followed with keen interest, so the idea is a non starter there.

Well.. I guess you are right about the stadiums getting matches and everything.. and cricket is different in that aspect. but then dead rubbers are exactly that... dead rubbers... and anyway, by then the interest in the series is lost. and diminishes the whole event. tires out the cricketers unnecessarily. Take current Aus-Eng series ... I followed until match 4 under the assumption that England will fight back (or maybe I was expecting too much from this Eng team who are sh.iite BTW without KP and AF) what is the point of these last 3 matches anyway which they are still loosing.

Is ICC dumb?:
Who runs ICC??
Very good points. I wish the ICC was competent enough to see that basics need to be corrected before a lot of future planning.
I wish you guys know what ICC is. ICC is not the governing body right now. It is only the sum voice of its constituent parts and if the constituents want the cricket to be run as it is being now, then what can the ICC do? Unless it becomes a proper governing body, like say FIFA (not the greatest example but you get the point) that has powers over and beyond its strongest member, little will change. So stop blaming ICC. They merely raise the point of concerns. Ifthey are being acted upon to be rectified or not depends solely upon the member countries. In that also weaker boards like WICB, PCB, SLCB, Bangladesh cricket boards etc hardly have a voice. They merely follow what the stronger boards like BCCI, ECB, CA and CSA decide. In these 4 also BCCI is the strongest and if it lacks leadership and vision for cricket, ICC is hardly responsible!!
Good post - the game is very popular as it is. What's needed are just some basic common sense changes : 1. Get rid of stand alone ODI series - they should always be a part of a test tour. Limit to 5 ODIs 2. Make sure the facilities at stadiums in places like India and Sri Lanka are spectator friendly - disqualify all grounds which are not able to conform to the guidelines which must include availability of food/water, increased shaded areas etc. 3. Ensure more bowler friendly surfaces so tests get less runs, more results, and make the cricket more challenging. 4. Stadiums which have a proven history of disadvantaging a side under lights must not be allowed to host day-night games. Provide them adequate compensation to make up for loss of revenue.
All good and valid points. But what would you do about the stadiums which are 20 kms outside the main city? How will people find time to travel up and down for that distance just to watch the matches, and that too for 5 days? No wonder Mohali and Nagpur stadiums were empty depite brilliant cricket being played there.

ofcourse' date='had it been suggested by Rcky,it would have been diffrent[/quote'] Aint like that dude... legends have shot down his proposal saying that its nothin new or not worth it.. check out this.. "This is just another idea, which was actually suggested in the past as well. So it's surely not a bolt from the blue. But ODI has been hugely successful concept and to change it, ICC has to give it a lot of thought. When you plan to alter such a successful product, you have to be careful," Manjrekar said Akram vaguely remembers playing one such two-innings 50-over match and did not sound impressed.
