Firstly what is it about?
Roundabout 54-52 BCE, the Romans under Julius Ceasar invaded Gaul. Vercingetorix, chieftan of the most warlike tribe in Gaul did the seemingly impossible and for the first time united the whole of Gaul under one banner to fight their opressors. After moderate success in the field and at Gergovia they failed at the siege of Alesia. Vercingetorix laid down arms to save his people. He was executed after 6 years of imprisonment.

interesting....so what's the name of the book' date=' again?[/quote'] Original discussion was about Asterix, a series of graphic novels by Rene Goscinny & Albert Uderzo about a village of indominable Gauls holding out against the Romans. You want to read about Vercingetorix try: The Life of Ceasar by Plutarch ( ancient philosopher whose writings are still published and obtainable). I think chapters 12-15 covers the Gallic wars. Also read the Emperor Series by Conn Iggulden.

Vercingetorix was king of the Arverni' date=' elected High King of Gaul. Gergovia was the only battle in which he beat Ceasar. His real name was Cingeto. Rix is a suffix which means king, and the prefix ver denotes that he is High King of Gaul. He was also the only High King in the history of Gaul.[/quote'] :hatsoff: Thanks lizzy.u r such a sweetheart:icflove:

Tell me about it please.
well the Shah kings of Nepal united nepal in 1700s under Prithvi narayan shah....legend has it that he was cursed by a sage that his dynasties rule will come to and end when 17 and a half generation of his family had ruled Nepal.Birendra shah was king of nepal through most of the 90s he allowed democracy in the country. IN 2001 he was killed by his own son and crown prince Dipendra, who then committed suicide. The cause was the apparent unwillingness of the queen and hence the king to allow the prince to marry a girl he loved.Gyanendra shah the youngest brother of the king was conspicous by his absence from what was a traditional and regular family dinner of the royal family, where all royal members where assembled. The only royal males to survive that day where Gyanendra, his son Paras(who is notorious for his drinking and other anti social activities but could never be tried as the constitution forbade the trial of the royal family). The wife of both paras and gyanendra also survived.Gyanendra dissmissed the parliament, and became autocratic ruler of the country. He was overthrown in a revolution by the political parties and maoists armed gurilleas in 2006.So after 17 and a half generations of prithvi narayan shah(birendra was 17th as his brother and not son succeded him on the throne it became 17 and half and not 18th generation of shah kings) the shah dynasty was overthrown. The book also tell how the consipracy to murder the king was hatched by gyanendra and paras thatz the gist
