vvvslaxman
To be honest i would rather have these guys play Ranji semi finals than playing Bangladesh. We could have sent a second string team. Link to comment
saneindian
Had the national players been asked to play for their Ranji sides playing the semis, we could still have selected a one day team of Vijay, Uthappa, Badri, Yuvi, Tiwary, MSD, Pujara, DK, Jadeja, Mishra, Ojha, Irfan, Sreesanth, Dinda, Munaf. Even this team would have won the tri series easily and the semis and finals of the ranji trophy would have become much more exciting to watch. Link to comment

kalpurush
Hey Bangla boys..why not give your predictions regarding the series? no confidence in your pussy cats. We do believe in Tigers, mate. It's a young team and they are doing better day by day. You can't compare BD with India. India is the top ranked team with so many world class players; on the other hand we have one or two. I believe in 4-5 years Tigers will transform into a good competitive side. Link to comment

ViruRulez
The moment of truth has finally arrived for 40-year old Sanath Jayasuriya when Sri Lankan national cricket selectors decided yesterday to drop the legendary all rounder for the forthcoming triangular series in Bangladesh also involving India. According to sources, the dashing left hander who completed 20 years in international cricket on December 26 has lost his touch since lately and the selectors gave him a final opportunity in the recent series against India using the opener as a middle order batsman but he proved to be a failure. The former Sri Lankan skipper who was much talked about in recent times for appearing in political TV advertisements for the forthcoming Presidential election retired from test cricket last year but plays ODI and T20 for Sri Lanka. Selectors have also axed out of form batsman Chamara Kapugedara, paceman Lasith Malinga and spinner Ajantha Mendis. Selectors have felt that Malinga has lost his focus while Mendis has been dropped for poor bowling form as well as for below par fielding. Former skipper Mahela Jayawardene, world record holder Muttiah Muralitharan and paceman Dilhara Fernando have not been considered for selection due to injuries. Chamara Silva returns to add experience to the middle order along with opener Mahela Udawatte while promising left hander Lahiru Thirimanne has been given a break. All rounder Angelo Mathews has been picked subject to fitness. Probable Sri Lanka squad- Thillakaratne Dilshan, Upul Tharanga, Kumar Sagakkara (captain), Thilina Kandamby, Thilan Samaraweera, Chamara Silva, Lahiru Thirimanne, Angelo Mathews, Suranga Lakmal, Nuwan Kulasekara, Malinga Bandara, Thisara Perera, Suraj Randiv, Thilan Thushara, Chanaka Welagedara and Mahela Udawatte I dont understand why Jayasuriya was adamant on being humilated by being dropped from the team ... he should have peacefully retired instead .. SL selectors also know the worth of Mendis now :hehe: Link to comment

Guest Shivani
I wonder what the selectors are trying to achieve by constantly shuffling ojha and mishra. Neither of them have been given a run and yet one is in in one series and out in the next series. Why not rest bhajji and give one of them a go in a full series to see what they can offer. And looks like its curtains for Badri's hopes of a place in team India. He has had such a terrific season yet Rohit comes back on the strength of his 300.(BTW Rohit scored a 0 in the ongoing QF match against Haryana). I guess Mishra is a better option for ODIs since we already have a left armer who's doing well and having ojha would be a waste of talent... its better if he rather plays domestic and not sit idle in the national squad.. I would prefer ojha over mishra for tests !!! Link to comment

Feed
Sri Lanka omit Jayasuriya, Malinga, Mendis for tri-series Several senior players, including Sanath Jayasuriya, Lasith Malinga, Chamara Kapugedera and Ajantha Mendis, were left out for next month's tri-series with Bangladesh and India. Former captain Mahela Jayawardene, spinner Muttiah Muralitharan, all-rounder Angelo Mathews and fast bowler Dilhara Fernando were not available due to injury. More... Sri Lanka make sweeping changes for Bangladesh tri-series Sa'adi Thawfeeq December 29, 2009 Poor form and player injuries have prompted Sri Lanka's selectors to make sweeping changes to the squad for the tri-nation tournament in Bangladesh next month, also featuring India. Those dropped include batsmen Sanath Jayasuriya and Chamara Kapugedera, fast bowler Lasith Malinga and spinner Ajantha Mendis, all of whom had disappointing performances on the recent tour of India. Sri Lanka lost the three-Test series 0-2, split the two Twenty20s and lost the five-match ODI series 1-3. Injuries to key players through the tour made the assignment in India all the more tough. In fact, batsman Mahela Jayawardene, allrounder Angelo Mathews and bowlers Muttiah Muralitharan and Dilhara Fernando were not considered for the 15-man squad to Bangladesh, having picked up injuries in India. Middle-order batsman Thilan Samaraweera was spared the axe, due more to Jayawardene's injury, and selection committee sources said the 33-year-old right-hander would add experience to the batting line-up and help ease the pressure on captain Kumar Sangakkara, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Upul Tharanga. Among the new inclusions are Chamara Silva, Lahiru Thirimanne, legspinner Malinga Bandara and fast bowler Thilan Thushara. Silva, 30, finished as the top run-scorer in the domestic Premier League Tier A tournament, with 900 runs from 11 matches at 56.25 for Bloomfield, scoring three hundreds and four fifties during the campaign. Most impressive was his strike rate of 99.77. Having last played an ODI in August last year, and his last appearance for Sri Lanka being in the 2009 World Twenty20 final against Pakistan, he will keen to make the most of the opportunity. "We think that Silva has a role to play in the World Cup. He is a fast accumulator of runs and he is a brilliant fielder," selection sources told Cricinfo. Thirimanne, 20, finished as Ragama Cricket Club's leading run-getter this season, with 709 runs in eight matches at 59.08, including two centuries and five fifties. Selection panel sources said Thirimanne was an exciting prospect and his ability to finsh a game would be extremely handy. His Ragama team-mate Bandara was also rewarded for his perseverence and was handed another opportunity to seal his place in the national side as a spinner. In fact, the uncertainty surrounding Muralitharan's availability for the 2011 World Cup has prompted the selectors to look elsewhere for spinning options. Left-arm fast bowler Thushara also made a return to the side after a freak shoulder injury which forced him to return from India. Allrounder Muthumudalige Pushpakumara, Suranga Lakmal and Suraj Randiv, who were replacements to India, have been retained. The tournament will be played from January 4-13 with Sri Lanka taking on the hosts in the first match in Mirpur. Sri Lanka squad: Kumar Sangakkara (capt & wk), Tillakaratne Dilshan (vice-captain), Upul Tharanga, Thilan Samaraweera, Thilina Kandamby, Chamara Silva, Lahiru Thirimanne, Thissara Perera, Muthumudalige Pushpakumara, Malinga Bandara, Suraj Randiv, Thilan Thushara, Suranga Lakmal, Nuwan Kulasekara and Chanaka Welagedera Link to comment
