One of the most remarkable political turnarounds in the recent past.

I still remember, watching BBC news 5 years ago in 2005, the ridiculous amounts of coverage the 'Orange Revolution' in Ukraine was getting. The then pro-Russian leader Viktor Yanukovych was overthrown in a popular uprising and Victor Yuschenko swept to power riding the massive popularity wave. Now, 5 years on, the wheel has come full circle in Ukraine. The 'Orange Revolution' is all but over. Yuschenko was handed a thumping defeat in the first round of the Presidential elections and in the presidential run-off that just took place, Yanukovych has managed to defeat the Yulia Timoschenko (one of the other architects of the O Rev.) to come back to power. This development should be seen in the light of recent happenings in the extended neighborhood. Georgia was all but hammered by Russia for their overtures into North Ossetia and now, its the turn of Ukraine to move farther east.
