Brainfade Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 At the Univ. of Alabama in Huntsville, what started off as a routine faculty meeting ended in the death of 3 professors and serious injuries to 3 more, when a nutcase faculty member opened fire. A colleague with a Harvard Ph.D., Amy Bishop, is charged with capital murder. Another professor and the department administrator are still in the hospital in critical condition. The deaths have left a small, close-knit department trying to pick up the pieces without either its leader, Dr. Podila, or the person colleagues described as its “glue,†Stephanie Monticciolo, 62, the administrator, who doles out hugs and birthday reminders. Ms. Monticciolo is in the hospital with a gunshot wound to the head. The two other people killed were Maria Ragland Davis, 50, and Adriel Johnson, 52, described as professors who spent hours of extra time helping students. A colleague, Joseph Leahy, 50, a microbiology professor known for his zesty lectures, remained hospitalized with a head wound. “They will leave a large hole in our department,†said Debra Moriarity, a biology professor and the dean of the university’s graduate program.

Getting tenured in academics is highly competitive and can be a tiring process, plus it comes with a good deal of inside politics. She was denied tenure and possibly took revenge. No one can justify what she did. By the way she also killed her brother 20 years ago with a shot gun. It was passed of as accidental death but the police is now saying that it might have been a cover up. Police records of those days are missing...:hmmm: One of her scientific publications has her kids listed as co-authors. WTH!!!

Shot her brother dead, "accidently" when she was about 20. Was declared an accident, and police records are missing. 2). Was questioned in the case where a professor on her post-doc committee in harvard was sent a mail bomb. Was cleared later...the case remained unsolved. 3). Was charged with criminal assault of a lady at an IHOP. :WTF:
