IKnowU Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 "For example when, at the 2005 Ashes, a bomb went off in London, we were in Leeds that day but drove to London that night. "Then, in a secret meeting, CA said if one more bomb goes off we would go home and not complete the Ashes. "As history shows, another bomb went off and we couldn't leave. Why? "The reason was the Ashes was too big and (there was) too much money. Any other country we would of (sic) left." http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,26773097-10389,00.html :hysterical::hysterical: Suck on that CA......
Ram Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Its not exactly double standards.. When it comes to security, you cannot paint everything with the same brush and use the same yardstick to judge every situation. Fact is, a terror attack in the European mainland isnt the same as a terror attack in a Pakistani city or say Colombo (during the heights of the LTTE insurgency). There's a reason why Australia decided to stay back and finish the Ashes, because the chance of Islamic terrorists mounting a targeted attack on Australian cricketers in the heartland of Europe is very remote, which such a thing is a distinct possibility in a place like Pakistan (something which actually happened, when the Lankan cricketers were attacked).
kabira Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 ^There's a reason why Australia decided to stay back and finish the Ashes, because the chance of Islamic terrorists mounting a targeted attack on Australian cricketers in the heartland of Europe is very remote Thats funny actualy. you say chances are remote, what does that mean?? There is still a chance. The chances of happening in UK is same as happening in India if they really want to do it. They have planted bombs in London Tubes and Mumbai Local trains.
IKnowU Posted February 25, 2010 Author Posted February 25, 2010 Everyone will accept the fact that India has a *higher* chance of occurance. But why does that chance suddenly have to increase fold when the players are freelancing???????

The chances of happening in UK is same as happening in India if they really want to do it. They have planted bombs in London Tubes and Mumbai Local trains. Of course not. If you think the probability of Islamic terrorist mounting a direct, brazen attack on visiting sportsperson is same in Homeland United States and Mainland Europe, as it is in say Pakistan and Sri Lanka (during the heights of LTTE insurgency), then you're just plain wrong. And no, the chances of random terror attacks happening happening in US/UK is far far less than say, it happening in South Asia. Thats precisely the reason why the occurrences of attacks is negligible there, when compared to South Asia. If the terrorists could strike there as easily as they could in South Asia, trust me, they would.

I would say pure BS .. I think he said it in support of IPL .. and you also know it quite well that cricketers would be given 100x times more safety in India or in IPL then it would ever be given in England ... it is the spectators who might face problem but the cricketers are more than safe .. dont agree with your logic at all If you are saying about Pakistan then its ok but I think he was saying more about playing in India during IPL and India ... I would say India is more safer for cricketers .. here cricketers are like god and the security will be like that of a minister .. far more than it would in Aus or England I have been following Damien's twitter and he is surely mentioning in support of IPL. Check this out http://twitter.com/dmartyn30 He is right about CA using double standards. Anyways Pwnting is crying sour. Hats off too L Modi for ridiculing Pwnting on twitter yesterday. Le li punter hi Modi ne kal. :giggle:
Guest DeveGowda Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Everyting depned finally on Money..Nothing else.... Modi, Martyn, OZ cricketers everyone wants money...so eventually every thing will be alright... Dont forget Martyn is in RR team..why he kept quiet till now regarding 2005 issues...?

But, you can understand why there are security fears. The IPL is not like a bilateral series, with just two teams and a handful of venue. We're talking about 100s of cricketers and support staff, nearly 10 venues and more than a 50 matches, spread across half a dozen states, all happening at the same time. Its almost impossible to provide fool-proof security to all.
ViruRulez Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Everyting depned finally on Money..Nothing else.... Modi, Martyn, OZ cricketers everyone wants money...so eventually every thing will be alright... Dont forget Martyn is in RR team..why he kept quiet till now regarding 2005 issues...? It is obvious but that is what he said. Everybody is more worried about money including himself and all this threat etc. are BS. Ashes had meant a lot monetarily after the Ashes and so after even two bombs they backtracked and did not leave England and instead went to the bomb hit city London. So, why should Aussie players leave IPL when no bomb has even exploded. The bombs had already exploded and that too twice but still they continued. So, why to not play when there is not even actual bombs even one. He is completely right IMO.
ViruRulez Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 I am not saying it just because Martyn said it. In general' date= we should not treat a terror attack in the UK, the same way as a terror attack Pakistan. But, you can understand why there are security fears. We're talking about 100s of cricketers and support staff, nearly 10 venues and more than a 50 matches, spread across half a dozen states, all happening at the same time. Its almost impossible to provide fool-proof security to all. For the umpteenth time I would repeat it is not Pakistan he is referring to but INDIA. I never disagreed with Pakistan but please dont make assumption about INDIA if you dont live yourself in India. I have lived all my life in India and somebody telling me about threat is ridiculous. And perhaps you also know that India will mobilize all its forces to save its honour. It is not 100% safe and how did all those bomb attacks happen in London if it was 100% safe there. No place in this world is safe and that is why Damien was saying. But you CANNOT stop everything because of threat. LIFE HAS TO GO ON. And it is not only central forces but also state police which provides security. It cannot be 100% fool-proof .. even the Aussies cannot guarantee 100% fool-proof but it will be 99.9% at least... for the cricketers I can personally say it will be 100% fool proof Take for example the hockey world cup taking place. News channels are reporting that even news reporters are not allowed to enter or meet the sportsmen and that is the level of security. It is not only high but it is extreme security for all sports tournaments. Hope that helps.

Thats precisely the reason why the occurrences of attacks is negligible there, when compared to South Asia. If the terrorists could strike there as easily as they could in South Asia, trust me, they would. No attack is random. Its all planned, sometimes they plan it for years. I am not going to talk about US, since they don't play cricket. But UK, yes they have notorious ppl living in their country, if terrorist groups want to strike they have lot of support there locally same as india. So chances of happening in UK is same as India. Only difference is respective Governments. I don't knwo about UK government but our government has no balls.
Desi Cartman Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 IMHO its upto each individual, its not like CA is sending a squad to represent Aus.. Like A company can decide not to have operations in a country but its stupid to say that NONE of the employees can take up job during their OFF time in that country.
