Denesh Ramdin, Dwayne Bravo and Darren Sammy to be sacked as captains - Report

After earlier reports about a reconciliation between the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and its players, media reports have emerged that the West Indies board has decided to sack all the three captains from their respective positions - Denesh Ramdin, the Test captain, Dwayne Bravo, the ODI skipper and Darren Sammy, the T20I captain. They are to be replaced by Kraigg Brathwaite (Tests) and Jason Holder (ODIs and T20Is), according to a blog named rolandbutchershook.blogspot.com In a dramatic revelation on the Mason & Guests show on Tuesday night in Barbados, the program's host, Andrew Mason, made this sensational disclosure. He also revealed that legendary pace bowler, Joel Garner, will be named as the manager for West Indies' upcoming tour of South Africa. Quoting information from a very 'reliable and significant source from within the WICB', Mason said that the decision was arrived at after a lengthy meeting by the board on Tuesday. The WICB had earlier promised that the players wouldn't be made to suffer and there would be 'no victimization' for all the events that unfolded in India, which eventually ended with West Indies pulling out of the tour after the fourth ODI in Dharamsala. The withdrawal of the West Indies team angered the Indian board, who slapped a law suit against the WICB, claiming 42 million USD as damages due to 'huge revenue losses, a loss of reputation and the risk of losing valuable commercial partners.' The board has now decided to renege on its initial promise that had been agreed upon during a meeting consisting of the board members, the player association (WIPA), the representative of the striking players and all parties' legal advisors. The conciliatory talks were held at the behest of St Vincent & the Grenadines Prime Minister, Dr Ralph Gonsalves, with the hope that a truce might be arrived between the warring factions. This move by the WICB ends all such hopes now. Reacting to the developments, Ralph Gonsalves, who was told about the sacking by the host of the show, expressed disbelief at what was happening with West Indies cricket. He was quoted as saying: 'I cant believe that....that would be absurd!' The Trinidad & Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) had earlier removed Denesh Ramdin and had named Rayad Emrit as the new captain. This, according to the striking players' legal representative, Ralph Thorne, was totally uncalled for. He also alleged that Ramdin wasn't even allowed to practise with the national team ahead of the news of his sacking. Responding to the decision of TTCB, Dinanath Ramnaraine, the former head of the West Indies Players Association (WIPA), had tweeted that Emrit didn't want to appointed as the captain under such circumstances. This was however flatly rejected by the board. Roger Sant, the Sports Director of CNC3 TV, and a noted figure in Trinidad and Tobago, replied on twitter saying: 'TTCB CEO, Suruj Ragoonath denies that Rayad Emrit has declined the captaincy of the national team.' The West Indies board is due to meet on Wednesday where the decision to sack the three captains might be officially announced.
