Re: First Test Team This is the first time that Sehwag, Tendulkar, Laxman, Dravid, Kumble, Ganguly, Zaheer, and Harbhajan would be playing together since Dec 2004 vs BD. I like yr team, TBP. But Patel may not make it (ankle still dodgy) and VRV might. take it easy, R

Re: First Test Team I like to go with Jaffer in place of Gambhir. Just because he got out playing on once you cannot drop him. Jaffer has quite well in the test matches so far and would have him on board. Otherwise the team looks just fine :wtg:

Re: First Test Team

Sehwag Gambhir Dravid Tendulkar Laxman Ganguly Dhoni Kumble Zaheer Sreesanth Patel YES ???
Waseem Jaffer has not put any wrong foot in test cricket, so I will continue with him and he is more compact don't need two flashy players at the top it turns into gamble..

Re: First Test Team Jaffer-must play has been a success since comeback Sehwag Dravid Tendulkar Gambhir- can do a job and adapt to middle order Laxman Dhoni Kumble Sree ZK Munaf No way should Gangs play but of course politics will mean his inclusion. Crapthan should not play and be sent to FC cricket for a couple of years

Re: First Test Team LMFAO @ Gambhir batting in the middle order. Munaf might not make it in time either. I think the following XI will take the field on the 15th of December - and strictly in this order; Sehwag, Jaffer, Laxman, Dravid, Tendulkar, Ganguly, Dhoni, Pathan, Kumble, Sreesanth, Zaheer. If it were up to me, i'd keep the same team and make just one change - dropping Pathan and bringing in VRV Singh (it's a case of picking the less harmful poison).

Re: First Test Team Why not GG in middle order? Its still bat versus ball and am sure he will do a much better job then dada. Or put him in as opener and move sehwag to middle order or put GG at 3 and move the others down one. Either way GG must be in team as want to have the strongest batters in, irrespective of where they bat Gangs will be cruelly exposed by the SA quicks on these SA tracks. They will bombard him and have 2 points and 2 gully's. He will continually get out in this area or driving as he will not get on to front foot with conviction after being peppered in rib cage. He could not play this bowling in his pomp let alone at 34

Re: First Test Team Gambhir has lots of noticeable flaws in his game too. He is a sucker for the incoming delivery, and that makes him easy prey for Ntini. He tends to overattack on occasion and is a compulsive hooker - which makes me doubt how long he would last while trying to hook guys like Nel who will send the ball at his head in a flash. The Sri Lankans exposed him big time. So whether he might be much better than Ganguly is debatable.

Or put him in as opener and move sehwag to middle order
Very nice idea. In fact, that's another change i would make. Sehwag is an incredible opening batsman, but with Tendulkar out of form, the question marks over Laxman/Ganguly and Dravid nursing a minor injury, the batting lineup is looking more and more fallible by the day. Sehwag's presence could strengthen that middle order. Gambhir and Jaffer have batted together in the past (ie; the warmup matches on the Pakistan tour) and have done alright. They both are in contention for that opener's slot, so why not pair them up and see who does better...

Re: First Test Team 1. Virender Sehwag 2. Gautam Gambhir 3. VVS Laxman 4. Sachin Tendulkar 5. Rahul Dravid 6. Sourav Ganguly 7. MS Dhoni 8. Irfan Pathan 9. Anil Kumble 10. Zaheer Khan 11. Sreesanth Perfect team in my eyes, Gambhir deserves the opening slot over Jaffer for now, Jaffers been out of form. Let him sort out his problem in the dressing room, Let Gambhir prove he can play a good knock, One spinner only seeing the seaming conditions, i think Kumble would apply himself more to the conditions than Harbhajan. Sreesanths been bowlin well and so has khan, and we saw what pathan could do with the ball and bat. Sourav can also be an X Factor down the order and can bowl some good spells sometimes. Sehwags place needs to be questioned to, this should be one of his last chances before he replenishes his batting.
