achilles Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 Lol' date=' since when did Aussies become model cricketers? [/quote'] Model cricketers - NO. Model Test cricketers (in recent time) - Maybe.
yoda Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 Mitchell Johnson gave the finger to IPL and a potential million + bucks to be fit and fiery fir Australia in tests. I wish we had such players. Aussies skipping IPL is for a combination of reasons, IMO: First of all most of them haven't gotten big contracts except for Gilly and Symonds. Part of the reason for them not getting big contracts is because their availability. Being available only for part of the season further reduces their pay packet which makes it even less attractive. I bet if there was an Aussie Premier League tailor made to fit with the Aussie calendar with Indian players able to participate just part of the time and with Indian players getting much less than their Aussie counterparts, you will find many Indian players showing their finger too.
achilles Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 ^ Apart from the money part, there is another point, yoda. Popularity amongst the Indian public is a major selling point for the franchises. They wouldn't buy a, say Johnson, coz he's not popular due to his gob and his substandard performance in this part of the world. Ditto applies to Ponting coz he was payed less than David Hussey despite being picked by the same franchise and despite Ponting being bit of a Legend.
