In start I thought the news was not that important but since yesterday in all cricket websites/newspapers its at the top in headlines, so just thought to put it here as well. MCC will sponsor some international series first time in its 223 years history. MCC to sponsor Australia-Pakistan series Contest will be branded under Spirit of Cricket MCC will sponsor an international contest for the first time with the Twenty20 and Test series between Australia and Pakistan being played under their Spirit of Cricket branding. The neutral series is being staged in England to aid Pakistan who can't play matches at home due to the security situation with Twenty20 games at Edgbaston and Tests at Lord's and Headingley. "MCC is committed to the health of Test cricket, and by sponsoring the series and hosting the first Test, the club is supporting Pakistani cricket at a time when the country's Test calendar has been decimated," said Keith Bradshaw, the MCC chief executive. "We often speak about Tests being the pinnacle of the game - and we're now acting to back up those words. ...

"I believe that the club is breaking new ground in cricket by sponsoring two such exciting sides in both Test and Twenty20 formats with a not-for-profit campaign, aimed at improving awareness of the game's cherished spirit and spreading that message as far and as wide as possible." "It is a very historic moment for PCB to enter into a unique relationship with MCC as sponsors of the Pakistan-Australia series," said Ijaz Butt, the Pakistan chairman. The club has come forward to support this series wholeheartedly which speaks of their commitment towards cricket. I am hopeful that this relationship will further strengthen the ties between PCB and MCC." Zakir Khan, the PCB's director of cricket operations, said that the ultimate aim was for international cricket to return to Pakistan. "It's very unfortunate that we haven't played Test cricket for 14 months," he said. "The passion is still there and we have a lot of youngsters coming up. We're sustaining our domestic competitions and have a good four-day structure which is standing us in good stead. It's unfortunate we're not playing at home but hopefully the situation will improve and we'll see Test cricket in Pakistan very soon." MCC are also adding to their historic honours boards which are currently in the home and away dressing rooms at Lord's to commemorate hundreds and five-wicket hauls. The club are now going to add a neutral honours board in the away dressing room to include achievements in matches such as the Australia-Pakistan series. In 1912 Charles Kelleway and Warren Bardsley scored centuries for Australia against South Africa in the last neutral Test held at the ground. They will be the first two names on the new neutral batting board.

Butt terms MCC deal as historic Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board Ijaz Butt described the deal between PCB and Marylebone Cricket Club as “historic”, under which the MCC will sponsor their Test and one-day series against Australia in England later this year. The MCC, first time in its 223-year history, will sponsor an international series with the first Test between Pakistan and Australia commencing at Lord’s on July 13. “It is a very historic moment for PCB to enter into a unique relationship with MCC as sponsors of the series between Pakistan and Australia,” Butt said. “The club has come forward to support this series wholeheartedly which speaks of their commitment towards cricket. I am hopeful that this relationship will further strengthen the ties between PCB and MCC,” he added. The PCB had apprehensions initially about awarding the sponsorship to MCC because it’s long-term clients included legalised betting and alcohol companies both of which are banned in Pakistan. But sources said the England and Wales Cricket Board and MCC had informed the PCB that they were getting the best deal from the partnership with MCC who had to accommodate its long term sponsor partners. The Pakistan-Australia series is being played in England because foreign teams have refused to tour Pakistan due to the security situation. Pakistan will also play England in a four-Test series after they finish their series against Australia and the PCB is hoping to earn approximately $5.5 million from the two rubbers. The PCB will be paid a participation fee of $3.6 million to play four Tests, five one-dayers and two Twenty20 matches against England and is guaranteed a minimum of $1.9 million earnings from the two Tests and two Twenty20 matches against Australia. According to a Memorandum of Understanding between the PCB and the ECB, there will be no reciprocal tour by England to Pakistan. The PCB has declared in the MoU that England’s next visit to Pakistan would be in January-February, 2012 under the current FTP and Pakistan will pay a return visit to England in 2015. Pakistan would also be paid 68,635 pounds after the conclusion of their tour to England as settlement of all amounts outstanding from the 2006 Pakistan tour to England. We are doing our best but don’t call us favourites: Bari Pakistan Cricket Board Chief Operating Officer Wasim Bari said on Tuesday that no team was favourite in the Twenty20 format of the game. Talking to a group of journalists here Tuesday, Wasim Bari said that not team can be termed as favourite in the T20 version of the game. “The national cricketers are doing their best in the camp training and high hopes are attached with the team during the World T20 which starts later in the month in the West Indies,” he added. He further said that the injury report of Umar Gul and Yasser Arafat has been received and the final decision will be taken after the doctors report after the MRI tests. However, the decision will be taken before April 18. He said that all the players have been provided with all the facilities required for training and now it all depends on the players how they excel in the championship. On security issues, he said that the time the situation improves international cricket will return to Pakistan and the PCB is also trying its best to bring in the foreign team to play in Pakistan. He further said that the team has busy schedule in the coming six to eight months and due to that, they won’t be able to play home series against any team including Afghanistan. Bari said that he started work on providing grounds to Faisalabad and Sialkot regions. He said in order to shun the controversies on ball-tempering and wrong umpiring in domestic cricket, a monitoring team is being constituted. Bari said that construction work at Rawalpindi Stadium is being done on priority basis and by August the work at Gaddafi Stadium would start again.
