MundaPakistani Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Re: Ban Revoked for Dopey Shoby and Asif The other problem the two have is that, unlike in tennis and athletics, not a single other cricketer has tested positive for the banned substance despite regular tests. It's very difficult to argue that you have been taking some unique, unheard of supplements which others cannot avail. that's not true Dhondy bhai....there is S Warne for starters!Your statements about regular testing isn't true either because it's something very recent and even now the cricketers are only tested after the major ICC tournments and they don't test everybody e.g this time they only tested 2 'random' players from each team! Speaking of Shoiab he has been tested 4 times before..twice by the ICC(after the 03 WC and 04 CT) and twice by the PCB.
yoda Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Re: Ban Revoked for Dopey Shoby and Asif Looks like this is the end of the story. http://content-nz.cricinfo.com/pakistan/content/current/story/271499.html But Ashraf, speaking to Cricinfo, defended the role of the PCB in the matter. "We remain totally committed to a zero-tolerance policy on doping. I cannot stress that enough. But the verdict of both commissions also has to be honoured and respected. The board has nothing to do with the commissions. They were completely independent; they proceeded and arrived at their conclusions in an open and transparent manner."
Dhondy Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Re: Ban Revoked for Dopey Shoby and Asif MP, I was refering to nandrolone. I am fully aware that Warne tested positive for diuretics. And testing has been going on for 3 years. These are the only two players to have been implicated for taking nandrolone in that time. If it's due to supplements, why haven't others tested positive?
Dhondy Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Re: Ban Revoked for Dopey Shoby and Asif Yes, Yoda, the man's hypocrisy is just staggering. "We are fully committed to the WADA code." Hahahahahaha. He omitted to say of course that the 2 players were convicted under the WADA code, but freed under the PCB code. Full commitment, indeed!
Dhondy Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Re: Ban Revoked for Dopey Shoby and Asif The whole thing was orchestrated like Beethoven's 4th, a masterly setup by the PCB and Bob Woolmer. In the run-up to the Champions Trophy, Woolmer became aware that Shoaib and Asif had abused nandrolone to hasten recovery from injury. Bob was cognizant that the ICC had a policy of testing two players from each team at major competitions. The odds were that these two, being Pakistan's star bowlers, and factoring in Shoaib's physique, and Asif's rapid strides in the international arena, would be the ones to be tested. Woolmer knew that discovery of doping would almost inevitably lead to a 2-year ban for his pair of luminaries, as the ICC was bound by the WADA code. Cue for frantic messages to the PCB therefore, to pull them out of the ICCCT, and conduct independent tests. Of course, the tests were positive, and a show had to be made to punish the players, only for the ban to be overturned on appeal. Voila, Shoaib and Asif are now free to play in the world cup! As PCB are not bound by the WADA code, all the ICC can do now is to pressure the PCB to toe the line. But of course, the mission has been accomplished. By pulling out the two from ICCCT, and preventing their tests being conducted by ICC (rather than the PCB), Woolmer has in one fell swoop, rescued the pair's careers. Bob should get a bonus methinks.
shailesh Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Re: Ban Revoked for Dopey Shoby and Asif quite possible..there is certainly more to this whole affair than what's told.

Rahul Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Re: Ban Revoked for Dopey Shoby and Asif ^^ the ICC World Cup will have extremely fool-proof testing, just like last time (when Warne's diuretic was traced). so i dont think Asif and Actor will play either ways, since Nandro stays in yr bloodstream for quite a while after ingestion. take it easy, R PS: MP, none of yr arguments make any logical sense. fact is, they cheated. they were caught. and becos it is the strange land called Pakistan, they were let off. NOWEHERE else would they have been let off SCOT-FREE in a blatant act of ad-hocism.
King Tendulkar Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Re: Ban Revoked for Dopey Shoby and Asif Full credit to australia a democratic country and part of the civilised free world. They found Warne taking drugs, drugs a lot less worse then pak's took and let the law take due process and banned their favourite son. Irrespective of him being a hero. While the non democratic, non civilised ,islamic republic lets the druggies of.

Baadshah Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Re: Ban Revoked for Dopey Shoby and Asif They found Warne taking drugs' date=' [b']drugs a lot less worse then pak's took and let the law take due process and banned their favourite son. Irrespective of him being a hero. Get your facts straight, Diuretics are used as masking agents for steroid abuse as they get the stuff out of the system very quickly. So if Warne itook a Diuretic it's likely that he was taking some steroids too. As for Nandrolone, here is an excellent article, written by an expert, so his opinion is worth 100 times more than anyone on here. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/6055410.stm
King Tendulkar Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Re: Ban Revoked for Dopey Shoby and Asif Yes and they Banned their hero Warne. Thats what happens in democratic, civilised countries
Dhondy Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Re: Ban Revoked for Dopey Shoby and Asif Baadshah is right about masking agents. BTW, this was in the article you quoted, Baadshah. But, if the Pakistan Cricket Board stick to ICC rules, neither of those arguments would make a difference. Greg Rusedski was a rare example of a sportsmen cleared after testing positive for nandrolone Under ICC regulations - taken from the World Anti-Doping Agency's code - the offence is having a positive urine sample, not in knowingly taking a drug. As Maughan says, "If you produce a positive test, then technically you are guilty." It is extremely hard to prove that the nandrolone in your system came from contaminated supplements
Dhondy Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Re: Ban Revoked for Dopey Shoby and Asif And unless, Shoaib and Asif have conveniently used up the last tablet in the supplement box, I don't see the problem with these supplements being examined for nandrolone.
Dhondy Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Re: Ban Revoked for Dopey Shoby and Asif Baadshah, Shoaib and Asif have never knowingly taken nandrolone. The positive test therefore must have come as a shock to them. They must have thought, "What the hell is going on. This can't be right!" Can you please tell me why they forfeited their right for the B samples to be tested?
Baadshah Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Re: Ban Revoked for Dopey Shoby and Asif And unless' date=' Shoaib and Asif have conveniently used up the last tablet in the supplement box, I don't see the problem with these supplements being examined for nandrolone.[/quote'] Dhondy i agree that the guilt is in the positive test and therefore how the stuff got there is irrelevant. (However the question then arises is that how have other athletes in the past been let off?) What my purpose in providing the article was to show that it's highly possible that Nandrolone can be taken unintentionally.

So i am lying right? then let's see what Shoaib's doctor said http://ia.rediff.com/cricket/2006/oct/17doc.htm "He has been tested during the ICC events and 2003 World Cup but he has never tested positive," said the doctor. oh no he must be lying too.... now let's see what was reported on CNN http://edition.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/asiapcf/11/02/insider.cricketdoping/index.html... So now what are you going to say? a Larry King conspiracy?
MundaPakistani Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Re: Ban Revoked for Dopey Shoby and Asif I see all of you guys are praising AUS and continently forgetting the Warne Waugh scandal of 93-94
