Glenn Mcgrath vs Wasim Akram

The comparison between Akram and Mcgrath is very similiar to that between Warne and Kumble. All four are among the greatest practitioner of their art, but their methods are different. Mcgrath and Kumble depended on their work ethics, nagging line and length, Warne and Akram were more talented and had a much more diverse set of skills. The pace at which Akram bowls, the ability to swing the ball both ways, the deadly yorker and the bouncer and reverse swing makes him very very lethal. I will always choose Akram over Mcgrath anyday. He is a pleasure to watch. Glen Mcgrath is a great bowler in his own right with his nagging accuracy and relentless pursuit of excellence. The fact that Mcgrath was a part of an all conquering team also plays a very important part. In tests, they were comprarable, but in ODI's WASIM AKRAM is miles ahead of any other bowler, simply for his death bowling.
:haha::haha::haha::haha: No, it isn't . Warne had a huge lead over kumble. And Mcgrath also has a good lead over Akram and has a better bowling average overseas in comparison to Akram. And in ODI Mcgrath is miles ahead of Akram due to his superior WC record and better bowling average and Strike rate.

Akram wins hands down. Mcgrath was a one trick pony & new ball bully that is why he is a flop on dead tracks in Pakistan and averaged 30+ . Akram averaged 24 in Aus despite bowling to excellent batsmen of Aus. Mcgrath was a good bowler but not in class of sultan of swing.

The series in which Mcgrath averaged 30 , Akram averaged 45 :haha::haha::haha: Akram was a minnow basher and most of his wickets were of lower order batsman and low quality batsman. Akram chickened out of series against Australia in 2002 :haha::hysterical:

Forget about a world class bowler like Akram, you never even had a single decent international class fast bowler throughout your cricketing history so your bias against Akram is understandable.

Btw Akram averaged 55 on his tour to OZ in 1999. :giggle:

An average of about 30 on the roads in Pakistan ain't too shabby though eh!? :two_thumbs_up:
True, but an average under 30 would have made him unique among all the bowlers. I can't think of any bowler with no holes in their career. Maybe Sydney Barnes or some of those bowlers before Bradman's time did, but anyone after 1950? Not even the great Malcolm Marshall has perfect stats (an average of 32.11 in New Zealand).

Best Australian bowler ever ? :nervous:
I think most Australian ex-players will rate Dennis Lillee as the best ever Australian bowler. Even Bradman rated him the best bowler of the 20th century.

Just looked up on Cricinfo, Sydney Barnes has perfect stats. But that for me is a joke. The man played his cricket in 3 countries altogether - Australia, England and South Africa. And in his entire career he played only against South Africa and Australia. P.S. I'm not taking anything away from him. He's probably better than any modern day bowler (among all who played since Bradman's era), but him having perfect stats doesn't mean anything because of the above factors.

No one in their right minds will dare to compare Imran, Akram or Waqar with any Indian bowler. It was just a joke from his side. It's like comparing Kamran Akmal with Sachin Tendulkar.

What sort of a ridiculous comment is that? SRT averaged about 15 in the 2008 Tour to Sri Lanka. Does that mean anything of significance?

But he did dominate same bowlers in India. Same can't be said about Akram. Anyway Akram was a great bowler. But not in same league of Mcgrath

:hysterical: Compare their averages. Kumble averages 31.25 while Akram averages 26.10 in that list. If taking wickets is the only criteria, going by that logic there are more than 40-50 batsman who are better than Bradman since they scored more runs.

You have sorted that list by the number of wickets taken. Now let's sort it by their bowling averages. Akram comes out on the 3rd spot with the 1st being S.T Banargee with 1 Test match to his credit, and the 2nd spot is occupied by A.R. Kapoor who played 2 Test matches. Virtually Akram leads the chart when you sort it average wise. Best performance by any bowler in last 2 decade against OZ in OZ.. And Kumble average is high because he took 200 Wkts more than Akram and bowled on graveyard of Pak in 2006
