Serani Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 WI team with Ambrose & Walsh were white washed in Pakistan in 1998 series. :winky: They were both past it by then.
hari504504 Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 I would say Kumble is more comparable to Mcgrath in terms of accuracy. Never thought Kumble was that accurate in general... infact I can't think of many bowlers who were as accurate as Mc.Grath day-in and day-out. Have I even seen him bowl a loose delivery ??.. Kumble used to bowl plenty of long-hops and full tosses
S.Bond Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Nope' date=' nowhere close. Marshall was in a league of his own. Hadlee didn't even come close. Hadlee was in the league of guys like Imran, Holding, Roberts, etc.[/quote'] I think Marshall can be considered as the finest bowler ever. But putting Imran and Hadlee in the same league with Holding and Roberts is a litle wrong according to me. Both Holding and Roberts were great bowlers but Hadlee and Imran were superior. I think, the fact that Imran bowled so much on these flat tracks should be taken into consideration. I rate Imran's bowling very highly, he surely is amongst the greatest bowlers to have played. Back to the topic, I think McGrath was a slighty better bowler than Wasim Akram. His achievments, his records are just amazing. He played such a big role in this Australian team that dominated cricket, and you can see without MCGrath it's no more so easy for the aussies. No doubt Wasim was great, a better bowler to watch but to me he comes second to McGrath. Wasim was a more useful cricketer maybe, especially in ODI's due to his late order powerful hitting, he played crucial roles in crucial matches a lot of time...

I hold Imran Khan and Richard Hadlee in extremely high regards. Both were virtually capable of making the ball talk. But I just think that Marshall pips all of them as the world's best, not by a huge margin though. It's kind of like Tendulkar and Lara, neither one of them is better than the other by a huge margin, very close.
riya Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Statistically Mcgrath is better than Wasim.I love to watch Wasim bowling anyday over Mcgrath.Watching Wasim,Waqar in their prime was pure entertainment. But as a cricketer Wasim wasn't as good as Mcgrath, his lack of commitment, involving in dubious activities made him a lesser player than what he could have been actually. He underachieved by a huge margin. On the otherhand Mcgrath was disciplined, committed kept on working on his game and gave it all. While I won't forget Wasim coping with diabetes since 1997,i won't forget Mcgrath handling his wife's illness. The stress was there in the case of Mcgrath. sometimes i feel that the stats junkies in this forum or any other forum come out of their stats world and think about some human aspects before dissecting the calibre of a player. How valuable their mere presence to the team etc. For example while analysing Tendulkar's stats, how people convenintly forget his battling with serious injuries and aspects like that.Numbers numbers everywhere.
