He scored fighting 91 to save game for us in Nagpur.. He has been averaging 63.40 in last 5 Tests. Would you have in your test team??

Dont you want a player who can take blows and guts it out..He did it against Aussies...Dont you want a player who can play fighting innings with lower order..thats what he did against England.. He did not deserve to be ousted from test team...One day team he should be dropped. no doubt..but not test team..

He has a grand total of 95 runs in 8 innings played in the 4 tests we have won. We have limited open slots in our testing lineup and need to find the next RD and SRT sooner than later. May be now is the not the time to drop him cause he did quite well in WI. But he should never have been in the team in the first place. BTW, he averages 20 in tests lost.

You cant have good player just like that...

VC laxman and comeback man ganguly average 20 and 24 in lost tests.

laxman in matches won - 51 ganguly - 49.05 kaif - 13.57 I agree Kaif's sample size is very small, but personally, i don't see it getting better by much.

Re: Will you have this guy in your team leaving the two rained out tests aside (chennai, 04 and the one you mentioned), typically pitches where matches are won or lost offer the best assistance to bowlers. these things will even out over the course of his career (if he has a long one). he averages 13 and 20 respectively in those. yes, bowling wins you matches, but these matches (won/lost) gives you an indication of scoring ability on lively piches under pressure. of course there is pressure in saving matches as well, which is difficult to look at unless you visit them one by one.

Re: Will you have this guy in your team kaif's career started in 99....he failed to score runs.. he got second opportunity....scored couple of fighting fifties against Aussies... saved a game with 91 in Nagpur...and guess what he was dropped from last two games... for once given full series and averages 60 odd that too away from the home....second only to Rahul Dravid.. The guy was willing to guts it out...In SA we need such batter...who can take a blow or two....he has done nothing wrong in Tests to be dropped just like that... unluckiest player in Tests Luckiest player in ODIs..

There are loads of example of average cricketer doing exceedingly well on sheer determination and hard work. Talent is not only thing reqd. to succeed...Even Ganguly was average cricketer....I would even say S. Waugh being average cricketer but with sheer doggedness and single minded attitude made him one of the greats.. I am not saying Kaif can be great..Its mere speculation..All I am saying he doesnt deserve to get an axe..

Re: Will you have this guy in your team We are mad at our selectors for not selecting Badri, Rao or Gagandeep.. these guys havent played a single Test..we dont know....they may be potential great player or may be useless first class bashers...we dont know..but we still are not happy with their non selection.. And here the guy who first scores 91 against good English attack under pressure, gets axe in next game.. Next he is given full series first time in his career and he delivers with average of 60 odd in away series.. and next he fails in ODIs..and our selectors sack him from the Tests.. If I was Kaif, I would be really mad.

Even Ganguly was average cricketer...

lol... Ganguly is amazingly talented.... he jus didnt work on the mental part or he would have become a really great cricketer... he was called the God of the offside..... he has 10000 runs in odis at 40+... Steve Waugh is an all-time great.... people say, he got where he is cos of determination and mental strength jus cos compared to tendulkar and lara he falls short though not in terms of record.... u still need supreme skills to face up to Windies barrage and other attacks he had conquered.... Kaif can only dream of dominating attacks like Ganguly has or rescuing India as many time as Steve Waugh has.... he is average and does not deserve a place cos u r trying to put together 11 most talented cricketers in the country....
