cricket786 Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Don't be an idiot. This is not whingeing. Reserve that for your team. I am pointing out a flaw with the structure of the competition. I don't care much about whether India is at receiving end of this, but a scenario where one team can make it to semi by losing more than winning, is just horrible. I am not blaming Pak here. If they gothrough, all power to them What else do you call some people chanting "this is not fair, that is not fair," regarding their team's placement? Yes, that is called whining, and maybe learn to argue without any name calling next time. The funny thing is though that Pakistan hasn't even qualified for the semis and you'll see some people still complaining that Pak gets the easy way out. How about you also check the net run rates in our group. It all comes down to how badly you've been defeated, our run rate isn't as bad as NZ's our SA's as of now. So, if Pakistan do beat SA comprehensively, then that knocks SA out as their NRR is already less than ours, even after we BOTH have won a match each. Then, if England beat NZ afterwards, obviously that won't go in NZ's favor in terms of NRR. Everyone but England in our group wins one match each. Then, it simply comes down to the run rate. And Pakistan will have the better NRR as compared to both NZ and SA. How is that NOT fair? Your group could've been in the same position where one team wins all three of their Super 8 matches and enhances while the second team enhances on the basis of NRR. As simple as that, and yes blame the ICC generally if anything for setting it up this way.
DomainK Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 We lost and we lost badly. There were certain requirements to reach the semis and the other teams in our group are doing better than we are. If we don't perform, we will be out.
Bradman99 Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Even if they're in diff groups the teams they beat haven't changed much. Both India and pakistan would have beat SA. Both got their behinds whooped by Aussies. Both cantered to wins over Minnows. In addition, India would've managed to beat two more test class teams, namely West Indies, and Sri Lanka, while Pak have lost against NZ and Eng. The flaw here is not really with the teams but the structure of Super 8. That's just the way the cookie crumbles unfortunately.
Precambrian Posted May 9, 2010 Author Posted May 9, 2010 One bad loss outweighs 3 moderate losses? Lol that's a first one. Keep them coming. Bradman99, the crumbling is not a healthy one. ;)
achilles Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Hypothetical.... Stupid ICC. Stupid Indian players who just don't seem to learn how to play the short ball.
cricket786 Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 @ precamb: It's not rocket science, dude. simply depends on how teams have been winning in your specific group. Yes, if one team wins all three matches in a group then that means the remaining three teams have won one match each how will you decide as to who will progress into the semis? The run rate comes into play and yes it may seem unfair to someone from the other group but then again your group could be in the same situation in the end, and I guess we'd be whining as to how you guys have it easy but that's just how ICC has set these events up.

Pakistan is the most fluke team. They won both 1992 WC and ICC T20 2009 by luck. Nobody is whining. You simply don't deserve to be in semi-finals.
achilles Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 and I guess we'd be whining as to how you guys have it easy but that's just how ICC has set these events up. And that comes with consistent performances on (and off) the field. It took us 20 yrs to get the respect we deserve at the ICC. And I'm sure they realize that the Indian fans will pack their bags and go home if we don't do well, which would lead to a lot of losses, like at the CWC 07. So commercially, its good for everyone to see us win the Cup. However, when was the last time India won the CWC? Its the performance on the day that wins you the match and the trophy, not Sharad Pawar, Lalit Modi, IS Bindra or the leverage we have the ICC. And I would like it, if you reply to this
cricket786 Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 @ satyam: Oh please, come up with something new already. Not even going to bother replying to these "fluke" comments. Nothing but lame and childish. and Pakistan hasnt even gone through to the semis, so what's all the fuss about? So try saving yourself from embarrassment as the last thing you guys wanna worry about it what Pakistan deserves, when you should focus on India's performances and what they need to do to enhance to the next round. Agreed as of now Pakistan may not deserve to progress b/c we've only beaten BD till now and yes, that is a shame considering we're the defending T20 champs but lets see what happens on Monday. Winning against SA won't be easy for us especially considering how they'll be aiming to surely win themselves, but the main thing for us is to do our best and win. Everything else depends upon the Eng vs NZ match. Call it whatever you want, but when all three teams, SA, Pakistan and NZ win a match each and Pak enhances solely because of their NRR I don't see what's not so deserving there. I rest my case though as we'll just have to wait till Monday to see what happens to our group.

And yes, the performances on a given day is what matters and what leads you to win a match/trophy which is why Pakistan winning last year's World T20 can't be termed as a fluke as we simply defeated two outstanding teams (SA and SL) when it really mattered, during the semis and the final game. Terming that a "fluke" time after time again is beyond me. Likewise, it wouldn't be fair to say that India being the World T20 champs in 07 was a fluke b/c they got the boot early in 09 now would it? ..just like you've stated, it's the performance on that given day that earns you a win, regardless.

cricket786 Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 That proves entire T20 tournament is a big fluke. then why exactly are you concerned about who "deserves" to go through to the next round, and who doesn't? it's a "fluke" anyways.

Simple Once again you are on the verge of reaching semi-finals through fluking and you don't deserve to.You are the worst team of this tournament and reach semi-finals
Pak_Fan_4_Eva Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 ^Stop embarrassing yourself in front of others satyam. Just focus on the tournament that`s going on right now. Luck is part of the game and in a format as *****y as T20, it matters so much more. Teams in our group had their chances of improving their RR. I don`t get what all the whining is about :S P.S We`re not going through. So you can sleep peacefully :P

You lost every test and ODI series after that. So T20 is the only hope you have got because it favours a team like you having no technique and skills what so ever . :haha::hysterical:
Pak_Fan_4_Eva Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 ^Sorry mate but you`ve lost it, badly. :PI really am not getting what you`re implying. You mean all you`re whining is for a format you don`t give a crap about? :S Please enlighten me

I don't how you would have behaved if you had won a test series in last 3 years. Thanks
Tridibans_16 Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Well i think all the rules were already decided prior to the tournament and it has nothing to do with any particular team! If any team, say Pakistan for that matter emerge out the luckiest one(IMHO they were lucky in 2009 to get to the semis) what the hell it has to do with ICC! If india were given this situation of beating SA to qualify after loosing 2 games, we wouldn,t have been complaining.
