ZodiaC Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 Okay, it's all over for India, now it's the time to put the blame on our players, IPL, etc. But I seldom see anyone questioning dhoni's captiancy.. Allright, we suck against short balls, IPL parties drained them, (what a lame excuse) or whateva, but I was just wondering, what was our mr. most-overrated-player-of-the-century doing? In the match against SA, they went in with 2 regular spinners (Chawla, bhajji), and 3 part timers (yuvi, jadeja, and yusuf) - god knows why he had to pick one extra spinner besides harbhajan as windies pitches never really assisted spin bowling that much.. Dhoni gave the penultimate over to yusuf pathan, who leaked runs in that match and kept SA's chances alive till the last over.. Thankfully nehra bowled well in that match, esp the last over, and we won it and no one bothers to look back the matches we won, and rectify the errors. And the next match against australia, where it all started for india, they went with one bowler short, when they were even struggling with 4 regulars in the previous match, and oh yeah, of course, our hero jadeja plays :finger: Okay, forget it, poor lad, lets give him one last chance.:winky: Yeah, we went in with just 2 pacers and lotsa part time spinners against aussies - Wow, I think bangladeshi's or zimbabwe would've played with a more agressive mindset than this..! Kudos..! Now this is what dhobi said during the toss: "Early morning start, a bit of swing for the fast bowlers," Yes, winning the toss, and chasing, where it's almost impossible to chase. Smart choice there dhobi..! And oh yeah, you wanted to utilize the swing right? Then why the heck did you give the first over to bhajji? Or is he able to get some swing? What the..??! 3 off first 5 overs were bowled by Jadeja and bhajji.. That's a smart way of using the early swing dude..! Okay, we lost the match, what we expect from him is atleast rectify the mistakes and go with some positivity. And here comes the biggest blunder, the guy, full of ego, wanna prove himself right, and he goes in again with the same friggin team against WI in a do or die match..!!! Ripley's believe it or not time..!!! Oh yeah, he wins the toss again and choses to bowl first with one bowler short.. Again gives 3 out of 5 off the intial overs to bhajji, hell yeah..! :two_thumbs_up: And of course he had to give raina who hadn't touched the ball for ages a chance in the death overs, while he didnt even bother giving an over to yuvraj.. And yeah matchwinning performance by Dhobi's favorite Jadeja on the field too..! And now we chase, our captian went on for a god-knows-why second - but lets forget it, we're just talking about his sucky captiancy... After the match the dude said, they were aiming for a consolation victory against srilanka.. That moment i felt like puking right there.. This is the kind of mentality we had before going for a knockout match we needed to win by a decent margin.. But that moment i realized, india was not gonna win... While srilanka aimed for victory till the very last ball, though they were through.. Thats the kinda agression we need.. And oh yeah, this time he helps us by sending himself up the order, while there were better options like Yusuf or Rohit.. And when even 200 was on cards.. When we were under no pressure.. He wanted to show off.. What a selfish ***... And thankfully slowed it down to 160+.. Now when we're like 20/2 or 3,he sends every single dude ahead of him.. When the team looking real good, he pops up from nowhere.. If you remember the same happened in the last worldcup too (though we won those matches luckily).. I felt like saying this to you coz somebody had to.. No ones going to look poor batting/bowling/fielding.. Everyone's gonna forget this when India r gonna win some matches on the same ol' flat pitches at home or overseas by the help of our seniors like sachin.. But seriously it is time to think.. Do we really need such a guy as captian who has zero passion towards the game or his side..!!?
Serani Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 Im not gonna read the essay, mainly because I know Dhoni is a mediocre captain who captains on instinct more than anything.

Dinx - the Jinx Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 ^^ let him create a thread na.. whats wrong with it? he had taken the effort to point out a lot od deficiencies in dhoni's captaincy... so why not create a new thread than bury it in some other thread, going unnoticed...
Dinx - the Jinx Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 One more feather to Dhoni's cap... Their positive mindset was the difference between them and India, as evidenced by what Dhoni said after the loss to the West Indies. 'We'll play Lanka and go home'. India seemed already resigned to the fact that they were out and that was unacceptable," Kumble wrote.

Hindsight is a good thing, but let's be fair how many of us thought Srilanka would lose so badly against the Auusies. Our run rate was so piss poor none of us gave a chance. SL did us a favor by playing so pathetically and we just returned the favor in that last game:))

I could see that.. Dhoni was all fired up in that dharamsala match where he did a boxer style celebration.. but he dint shoe even 50% of intensity playing for India...

He talked about it in general, but then that is a point I made at the end of that Dharamsala match when Dhoni said, the franchisees pay so much money, the minimum we must do is get into the semis.
yoda Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 he is a good captain when we win, a useless one when we lose. as they say, a captain is only as good as the players he has under his disposal. IMO, a captain can screw things up like make some rather poor team selections, bad post-toss decisions, some insane bowling challenges and field placements, but can't change much of a game positively from his side, unless you consider not screwing up the above things is in itself a great thing. Very rarely will you see some brilliant team selection or a stroke of genius in bowling change or field placement, from any captain. It does happen I am sure, but the screw ups seem more often. One thing I will give to Dhoni is that he is cool, calm and composed. That alone can only help you so much, especially if you make bad post-toss decisions and make questionable final 11 picks.

Shouldn't have gone with 5 bowlers + YKP in the initial matches. Ofc it is easier for us to say all these from here, we don't know what pressures he has when picking the team and who are all involved in the final call, which is why it is always a team effort.
cowboysfan Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 i dont want sehwag to be the captain(mainly because fans will now turn on him).i have been critical of dhoni's captaincy before but he is forced t work with the 6 or 7th rated bowling attack in the world.why blame him for our bowlers mediocre performance?.many of the games we have lost in t20s and odis could have won if the bowlers held up their end of the bargain. We need to fix the bowling.i would suggest by not picking Zak for limited overs cricket,he brings nothing to te table.bring in a young hungry guy and let him prove himself.

That's like your opinion mate, which aint true.. And don't gimme the calm n cool crap for gods sake.. Sachin was (is) calm and cool do - but that doesn't essentially make him the best choice for captian innit? Now about ur argument that captiancy is not of much relevancy.. Wrong.. If you look back, last match had we made a 10-20 runs more, we had every chance of winning it comfy... And by sending an out of form Yuvi and himself ahead of inform rohit sharma or big hitters like yusuf pathan, he screwed it up.. Maybe our bowlers were not in form, but captiancy is all about making the optimum use of available resources.. And that's where dhoni screwed up.. Now cant blame players alone can we? what about these questionable 11, he went with jadeja bcoz he was our best limited overs bowler in last six months and reserves piyush and vinaykumar ability was shown in the last game.so we must admit this that our lineup specially bowlers are pathetic and we were not good enought from the start itself and were lucky to win against SA. there is no point going for dhonis head if we have such pathetic t20 line up with out of form batsmen and ordinary bowlers Dude.. Selection was not good.. agree.. But that's not the only point I've made.. I've mentioned various other blunders as well... In fact I blame him the least for team selection considerig what he had done on field as a skipper... Now about jadeja, it's sheer common sense to play a pacer on fast and bouncy track.. Jadeja migh have worked okay in some matches.. But that doesn't mean he's good.. You have absolutely no time to get team combiantions right, so if Jadeja was leaking runs like anything (and he never contributed anything seriously with the bat), he should've been rested.. And about Vinay Kumar, he did an okay job, just that last over of his in the death screwed his figures up a bit.. Now it was his first match, we needed to give him more exposure than playing defensively with one bowler short, and crappy players like jadeja.
