Show_stopper Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 IPL dreams on hold, Anil Ambani eyes Team India's sponsorship Mumbai: Anil Ambani is making his foray into cricket. He may not own an Indian Premier League (IPL) team like his brother Mukesh yet, but the industrialist is vying for other things — Team India’s sponsorship. Days after Lalit Modi was suspended as IPL chairman, his successor Chirayu Amin gave a clean chit to the younger Ambani by stating that the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) is not a blacklisted company. It has been reliably learnt that ADAG has bought the tender form floated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for Team India’s sponsorship. The form costs Rs5 lakh. Though no BCCI or ADAG official spoke on record about Ambani’s interest in Team India’s sponsorship, sources say the industrialist’s company purchased the form on Monday, the day it went on sale. A DAG is one of the major sponsors for the International Cricket Council, having reportedly invested about $100 million for an eight-year deal. The BCCI floated the tenders as Team India’s sponsorship deal with Sahara is about to end in a month. It is not known if Sahara will continue its association with the Indian team as it now has its own team — Sahara Pune Warriors — in the IPL. “We’ve not made a decision yet,†said a Sahara spokesman. However, it is likely that the company will buy the form too. The last date for submitting a bid is May 29. This is the second tender process initiated by the BCCI in six months. The last attempt in December 2009 evoked no response as the BCCI had reportedly put a high base price for the sponsorship. The current base price is not yet made public, but sources in the BCCI say it will be as much as Sahara currently pays. The current rates are Rs2 crore for a Test match, Rs1.9 crore for an ODI and Rs1.5 crore for a Twenty20 match. In December last year, the BCCI ended up burning its fingers by putting Rs3 crore as its base price. Nobody had bought the forms. This time, however, the situation looks different. With a big player like ADAG jumping into the race, the BCCI may end up with a big deal. Team India’s sponsorship means the logo of the company will be prominently flashed on the players’ jersey. http://www.dnaindia.com/sport/report_ipl-dreams-on-hold-anil-ambani-eyes-team-india-s-sponsorship_1387402

More... Nimbus, Percept also join race for Team India sponsorships Vijay Tagore / DNA Thursday, May 27, 2010 Mumbai: There has been very little movement at the Cricket Centre vis-a-vis bidding for Team India sponsorship. Three days after the BCCI came out with an advertisement announcing the sale of rights for the prime place on the jerseys of Men in Blue, only three parties have come forward to buy the bid documents. The document is being made available at the BCCI office for Rs5 lakh. One of the reasons for the lukewarm response is believed to be stringent conditions. Sources say each bid has to come with a cheque of Rs50 crore and winning bidder is required to submit a bank guarantee for the entire money. The Board has fixed a base price of Rs2.5 crore for across the board — Test, ODI and T20 — unlike in the past when there were different prices for the different formats. Market sources say the conditions are too stiff. Meanwhile, Nimbus and Percept have shown interest and have purchased the bid documents. As reported by DNA, Anil Ambani’s ADAG was the first company to pick the document. One more telecom company and a public sector oil firm may jump into the fray. The last date for submission of tenders is May 29 and the winning bid will be announced on May 31. The deal will be for three-and-a-half years during which the Indian team is expected to play up to 150 international matches. Meanwhile, BCCI secretary N Srinivasan has kept mum on whether he would recuse from proceedings against Lalit Modi but lashed out at the suspended IPL commissioner for his “habit of leaking information” to the media. Asked if he would stay away from the proceedings as demanded by Modi, Srinivasan said, “I’m afraid I cannot discuss these issues in the media. Mr Modi has this habit of leaking information. We have showcaused him and he has to come out clean. I cannot respond to all his allegations in public. Nobody can question my integrity,” he was quoted as saying by news agencies.
Gunner_Mania Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 BCCI receives two bids for Indian team sponsor In the end, only two players, Sahara Group and Bharti Airtel, submitted bids for the right to sponsor the Indian team. Both Sahara, the existing sponsors, and Airtel bought the tender document at the last possible minute before the submission deadline, and Cricinfo has learnt both companies have submitted the mandatory Rs 50 crore (US$10.7 million) deposit required by the BCCI. The Indian board issued the tender on Monday inviting companies to bid for the rights, whose tenure is three-and-a-half years beginning July 1, 2010. Other companies in the fray included the ADA Group (ADAG), consumer electronics major Videocon, Delhi-based Monnet-Ispat, sports broadcaster Nimbus, which owns the rights to matches played in India, and advertising firm Percept. A source close to Nimbus said the broadcaster was approached by ADAG on Saturday morning, as its top brass was reluctant to commit as much as Rs 400 crore (US$ 85.6m) on its own. Nimbus, meanwhile, was trying to put together a consortium to bid for the rights, but was unable to pull it off due to the short time-span - less than a week - between the date the tender was released and the date the bids were submitted. "They released the tender on Monday and all the bids need to go in by Saturday, which is just about four working days by the time the tender was in hand. That is not very easy to work out when you are trying to get people to commit to Rs 400 crore." It was reported widely that the BCCI was against consortiums bidding for the rights, but one of the interested players, who was among the first to pick the document, said that the board never had any issues there. "They had sent a clarification stating they did not want any marketing agencies to be part [of the consortium]." The BCCI has set a base price of Rs 2.5 crore per match for a three-and-a-half year period, during which India will be playing between 144 and 167 matches, depending on how far the team progresses in the ICC tournaments. The current price represents a 16% discount from the tender the board issued late last year, which had a base price of Rs 3 crore per match, and failed to attract a single bid. As a stop gap measure, the Sahara Group agreed to extend its sponsorship of the Indian team for a further six months, a period that ends on June 30. The lack of interest in the tender six months ago and the subsequent lowering of the base price represents "the impact of the IPL," according to Hiren Pandit, Managing Partner-Entertainment, Sports and Partnerships at Group M, a prominent media buying agency. Pandit believes the IPL gives firms an alternative avenue to get involved with cricket, thereby reducing the exclusiveness of the Indian team. After winning the bid for the Pune IPL franchise, Sahara chairman Subrata Roy had said the company would re-evaluate its sponsorship of the Indian team. Subsequently, when contacted by Cricinfo, the company declined to comment to on whether it would be bidding this time around. The Sahara Group had paid roughly Rs 400 crore in 2005 for the right to sponsor the Indian team for four years. At least one prospective bidder, who bought the bid document, thought the current base price was still too high. "Anyone who bags the rights will have to spend on an average 125 crore annually only on this. That is a huge amount of money." Shailendra Singh, joint managing director, Percept Limited, which had reportedly purchased the bid document for a client, says the Indian team is still the best cricket brand around. "From a value perspective, the sport of cricket stands unparalleled as a property for sponsors today," he said. "For any fan, especially in India, the national team is the ultimate. People follow IPL because you have the cricketers from the Indian team playing, they are the main attraction. Hence this in no way reduces the importance or following of Team India. Team India will be one of the best cricket properties always." The BCCI will announce the winning bid after holding its marketing committee meeting in Mumbai on Monday. http://www.cricinfo.com/india/content/current/story/461327.html
Feed Posted May 31, 2010 Author Posted May 31, 2010 Sahara bags Team India sponsorship till 2013 Sahara retained the sponsorship for the Indian cricket team for the next three and a half years. More... Monday 31st May 2010 Sahara bags Team India sponsorship Sahara retained the sponsorship for the Indian cricket team for the next three and a half years. The company brushed aside competition from Airtel and will now pay Rs 3.34 crores per match for all three formats. Airtel had reportedly bid with Rs 2.89 crores per match. Sahara India and Airtel submitted the security deposit of Rs 50 crore along with the form at the end of deadline while the other firms excused themselves from the race due to steep base price of Rs 2.5 crore per match. "Six took the forms but only Bharti Airtel and Sahara have sent the security deposit (Rs 50 crore). They will submit the financial bids tomorrow to the BCCI marketing committee that is meeting tomorrow," the sources told PTI today. The Cricket Board had published a tender notice calling for bids for the Indian men's team, women's team, India A squad and the under 19 squad and the deadline to submit security deposit ended on Saturday. Sahara’s decision to continue its association with the Men in Blue was a surprise as there had been intense speculation that the Lucknow-based company would end its association given that it has a cricket team of its own now, in the IPL. Gunner_Mania Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 For another 3 1/2 years Indian will need SAHARA to progress in the later stages of a tournament. *sigh*
IKnowU Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 :aha: My new jersey I bought a couple of months ago is still the latest :aha: Thankyou sahara :--D
b555 Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 Sahara to pay whopping 3.34 crores per match..omg! :omg:
Gunner_Mania Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 the economics of all this just doesnt make sense to me. No sucker will buy Sahara products and services just because that brand name is on the shirts of our cricketers. Even if they do it will have to be done by huge numbers and on a regular basis given the astronomical price tag of sponship. Tbh, I do not even know what their services and products are. I know of a TV channel, their Amby Valley project which is not for the aam janta, and have heard of some finance stuff they do in Lucknow but don't know what it is. They had an airlines and that is now been sold. What exactly do Sahara do?
Aaku Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 :aha: My new jersey I bought a couple of months ago is still the latest :aha: Thankyou sahara :--D :giggle:
