2 miles, 4 floors up and down 4 times a day, and i am trying to eat right with plain fresh ground coffee and two bowls of kashi in the morning... a banana in the middle of the day, and a cereal bar to bring up the afternoon... i need to have a heavy meal tonight though, since i donated some blood and am going to be at work till 10pm. so tomorrow is that one hour workout between classes, maximize it for me please. what routines i must do? i usually prefer to work my legs since being the biggest muscles, i am assuming working them maximizes calorie burn??? i ll try the isopure later this week. @ cricketgirl what shoes do you use? i typically run about 4-5 miles every time i go running which is about thrice, at best four times a week. i use puma voltaics or any puma with the i-d cell sole. lately, i am finding them rather cumbersome and am on the look out for a new show. i ve tried reebok with dmx sole but lately they are not making them anymore. i dont wear nikes, and new balance and i have a relationship much like that i had with my ex: abuse without relief...

lol oh dear sorry hear about your relationship with your ex/shoes?? :dontknow: anyhow, try asics!! i too have a bad relationship nikes - caused me really bad pain down the front of chins because of poor support on the heel! but asics are much like hubby! reliable comfortable and does the job well! :P sorry but u started the cheeky analogy not me! :giggle: i work in an 11 floor building and i make a point going from top to bottom at least once a day!! its just one more way of getting/staying fit!! specially because i am a busy working mum so i dont always get to spend as much time in the gym as i would like!! another question for you, just a second a opinion wanted here!! my trainer has reccommended that i shift from doing the regular leg press to the vertical one to strengthen my legs and core will this not bulk me out because of the level of weights and also the change in motion??

i would suggest that do it without additional weights. i do a 18 inch vertical with body weight and occasionally another 40lbs. i have huge calves and hamstrings. heck, if one was to detach my body below the waist, the lower half would make arnold envious... its the tub and pigeon chest that give me the disproportionate look... pity women arent into big thighs... you know, climbing 11 floors and running periodically is enough exercise... why push your legs any further especially when mass gain is not the objective?

Folks...Any tips for burning off belly flab .. i go running reasonably frequently' date=' anything more i can do...[/quote'] i think losing the donut is not as easily done as one might imagine. i ve been running periodically, and doing light exercise when not going to the gym regularly, but its been bloody impossible to lose the donut. the answer may lie in one's diet and mental state of mind. for instance, last semester i was rather stressed and i noticed that it resulted in weight gain... maybe you suffer a similar affliction.

Hmm that^ sounds interesting. Will hunt for one. How about fat burning pills? Do they do the biz? My diet isnt uber fatty but isnt great. Got a sweet tooth and do consume biscuits that I shouldnt. Ive cut down though, so am improving- my milk, cheese, peanut butter (:P) marganrine is all low fat now. Now to stop eating rice for dinners!

importantly, it changed me. On March 2008, I was a whopping 183-184 lbs, with an insane bf of 31% a total noobie when it came to fitness and dieting. But this thread really turned it 'round for me. After nearly two years of (little)trial and (mostly) errors, my stats now stand at 162-163 lbs and a more reasonable bf 18-19%. I do not know many 1000s of miles I must have run on the mill (no jokes, 100% serious). Ultimately, all that sweat has finally some dividends. All thanks to Lurker I must say! :two_thumbs_up:
Good on you man. Losing 20 pounds is fantastic. Would get you in better health and positive frame of mind. Not to mention you realize you have it in you. Extremely glad to hear that. Keep it up.

do you think upping the carbs might help?
Depends on how carb-receptive you are. Generally speaking girls are more carb receptive while guys are more fat-receptive. This is pure anecdotal of course so you decide where your strength/weakness lies. If you do up your carbs make sure you dont bump up complex carbs(as is the conventional wisdom), look to add some simple sugars/glucose/waxy maize/fruits about 30 minutes before run.

Both useless if you ask me. Legs is one area where females are as strong as males(comparatively). Concentrate on leg squats and stiff legged deadlifts and your legs would be golden. If you want to bring up the glute-ham tie in area try lunges. Leg presses(vertical or horizontal) are a good 3rd(or 4th) exercise in your routine. It should not be the major exercise for legs. For legs squat is king, with good measures. if you want to concentrate on core do bare bar squats for high repetitions.

True indeed. Largest leg muscles hence largest consumers as well. Plus there is no way you can work legs without using your core muscles, which should take care of your tummy.\ I also disagree with your notion about thick legs. In my experience that is what girls do like, they are just more subtle about it. Generally speaking you have 9 out of 10 guys whose jeans dont fit well on them. Look at a guy who has got good legs, then look at how he carries the jeans and you can rest assured he would attract lot of female attention. Being in TX you might have seen girls go gaga over guys with thick legs in boot cut jeans.

They do work. You have to know your way around them for sure. Look at pills with Green Tea and Caffein. Yohimbine HCL is a great fat burning component but can easily give you heart palpitations. Also can cause you anxiety and give you a boner at all times. I am serious. Most of the male enhancement pills have some sort of origin in men pre-workout drinks (NO products anyways). You will have to do your homework to make sure the pills work or else you will dismiss them as fad. Needless to say if your diet isnt tight you wont see the desired result.

^^ NO way. I need to be careful with what I get then... that can be embarassing.. :cantstop: How about in terms of actual excercises? crunches dont actually burn the fat do they? Is running the only/best way to shred the gut. Im just not comitted enough thats the biggest problemo. Partly because work study etc comes in the way, but primarily because im lazy. Im getting married in July though so want to in some sort of shape by then. Im not unfit, just not especially toned.

i tend to be ok with carbs such as rice and potato but for me the worst thing is bread and pasta they play havoc with my blood sugar levels! give me highs one min and lows the next oh and noodles are fine too! i tend to eat most of my carbs morning and afternoon and go for protein and veg based food in the evening which dietery wise seems to work well for me! tho i think might start upping the carbs a little the day before i run etc! bar squats- weights or no weights?? plus this gave me some real pain between my shoulder blades i swapped the bar for dumbells! stiff legged dead lifts - is this the one where u take a bar down to ur feet with your legs as straight as possible?? then bring it back up?? i'm also doing shoulder bridge on a ball using the back of my ankles to push the ball forward and back - works the hamstrings glutes and strengthens the torso!

Lowdown on fatburners: Alli - dangerous to anyone who's BMI is less than 25 will give u bad wind and you will literally sh*t oil! Thermabol - works as long as you do the cardio to go with it and eat a healthy diet, downsides are they make you feel jittery all the time bad mood swings!! and will keep you up at night! Xenadrine - same as above accept you add heart burn to that as well! Epherdrine - Illegal to buy or sell in this country (UK) but apparently it works as long as you so the cardio! my best advice on this one would be to drink around 5 mugs of green tea! but none of these fat burners work if you dont put in the work yourself that is burning the fat thru cardio!!! Truthfully?? so much of this is all a fad! its all in your mind - u push urself harder u will see the results!

How about in terms of actual excercises? crunches dont actually burn the fat do they?
Crunches, and other ab exercises, will strengthen your core. They wont reduce the fat as such. Still firm tummy is nothing to be scoffed at. So long as you are doing crunches correctly you should be good.
Is running the only/best way to shred the gut.
Shredding gut involves losing body fat which in turn means you want to burn more calorie than you in take. Running, and other arobics, exercise help you achieve that. Running is best but by no means only method. You can do other aerboic exercies as well. If nothing just find a tall building and run up the stairs.
Im getting married in July though so want to in some sort of shape by then. Im not unfit, just not especially toned.
As one of my crazy Pathan friend Zehri saab would say, 6 months before marriage one should forget about exercise wexercise and concentrate eating only yogurt and chuhara lol..Some Afgani thingy if you ask me. Good luck by the way.

bar squats- weights or no weights?? plus this gave me some real pain between my shoulder blades i swapped the bar for dumbells!
I experience the pain when I am involving my shoulders to help with the push. I would recommend using only the bar and then adding weight as you get comfortable. A good variation is front squat that will hit front legs, quads, as nothing else does.
stiff legged dead lifts - is this the one where u take a bar down to ur feet with your legs as straight as possible?? then bring it back up??
Yes. Start on a level a bit higher than ground and grab a bar by your hips. Then lower the bar pushing your glutes back. Push back with your heels when the bar is around ankle. You may want to superset with back extension machine to make a great routine for entire muscles from lower back all the way to calf.
i'm also doing shoulder bridge on a ball using the back of my ankles to push the ball forward and back - works the hamstrings glutes and strengthens the torso!
Thats a good improviser. Girls do have advantage when it comes to working leg/glute muscles. Kind of hard for men to do many of these exercises but they are terrific really. You can also do dumbbell ply squats (look them up on Youtube). It has almost before a woman's only exercise but is absolutely great for legs.

Enlighten about Zehri? Well he was a bit hot in the head but for a change loved India. And most things Indian apart from fans on websites. Hated SRT for that reason before he became a convert. Well I am sure thats what you wanted to know :giggle:
