Why are ppl surprised by the Pak match-fixing allegations ?

Pakistan players match-fixing! I am shocked and totally lost for words! After all the following events never occured... 1. Pak bowlers caught ball tampering and Imran admitting as much saying everyone did it and it was common in county cricket 2. Pak players (Akram, Waqar etc.) caught taking drugs in windies 3. Latif claiming he was asked to under-perform and fix matches and Qayuum report mentioned most of leading Pak players including Akram 4. Latif himself banned for 5 games for "cheating" in a Test against Bangladesh 5. Afridi caught pitch tampering by pirouetting on the pitch 6. Akhtar and Asif caught taking steroids before world cup and feigned injuries 7. Akhtar feigning injuries during games 8. Asif caught smuggling opium and taking drugs for the second time round 9. pak players caught ball tampering by Daryl Hair in Eng 10. Afridi tampering with the ball in Aus 11. Pak players admittedly under-performing during recent Aus tour 12. Asif and Amir involved in spot-fixing and bowling no-balls as predicted by a match fixer Based on the rap sheet so far, it really amazes me that ppl are surprized that pak players are involved in match or spot fixing. After all it's par for the course for Pak and they have done everything possible including match-fixing, ball tampering, pitch tampering, under-performing, cheating, taking drugs etc. Why exactly they can't take money for spot fixing and bowling a few no-balls? What makes all this all the more hilarious is the holier-than-thou attitude of Pak players even after being caught cheating and all their bullcr*p about "honour", "bringing shame to the nation" etc.. I mean they start doing "sajda" after reaching personal milestones, plus you get religious folks like Inzi and Yusuf who act religious. But the same guys will do anything to earn a few extra bucks including joining ICL, retiring, unretiring, match-fixing etc. I guess now we wait for the annual PCB charade of banning players and revoking bans after a month lol

I wasnt surprised but this is just confirmation on what many of us have been thinking. This is a big "I told you so" moment just like the wikileaks "ISI funds terrorism" report.

@desi cartman, IMHO this had to happen sometime and even though this incident will mess up cricket in the shorter run, but for cricket to survive and thrive this was necessary. There were way too many questions left unanswered post last match fixing scandal. Lot of ppl got away when they shouldn't have and that's the reason why we are at the cross-roads once again. If PCB had taken strict action against the likes of Akram and handed out stiffer penalties to Akhtar & Asif, the players wouldn't have been emboldened to act in such a brazen manner. I think cricket has the chance to purge and cleanse itself of the stigma that in a way had never left the game. I sincerely hope that this time ICC, and not the PCB, steps in and hands out the punishments to the guilty players and sets such an example that nobody dares to act in a similar vein in the future. And I hope all the boards back ICC when the riot act is read to the offending parties. Plus things would be a lot easier if Scotland Yard manage to come up with hard-core evidence.

I agree with you but I have always wondered how can it be possible that fixing was happening at such a large scale and none of the bigger stars ever did anything about it. ICC just needs to state that any player/official involved will at minimum get a life ban. Its a matter of banning couple of players and all this BS will stop. Dilli police did a wonderful job by gathering enough evidence but once it went to courts and CBI got involved it just went downhill. PS: dilli Police > Scotland Yard

Well I read a few articles on cricinfo and other sites and the feedback/comments from Pak fans has to be seen to be believed... they have blamed everyone from English media to ECB, India to BCCI, RAW to MOSSAD and of course for them Pak players are innocent! Apparently the scandal was caused by India coz India feared their "great fast bowling attack" conveniently forgetting it's the same attack India thrashed by beating Pak in Asia cup recently - and that too while CHASING UNDER LIGHTS IN DAMBULLA where anything over 200 is virtually unchaseable under lights!!! I still remember Bhajji hamering Aamer for a 6 to win the game and sticking it to Akhtar :) Aah bhajji you do bring fond memories :)
