Ranji Trophy : Round 4 The homepage of bccicricket.org isnt working for me so could only get the scorecards for a couple of matches. Group A matches should probably start with matchid 1951 and onwards in url's but they are not working at the moment. With the ODI series to start in a few day, a lot of the players would be missing i.e Yuvi, Kohli, Yusuf Pathan, Vinay, Ashwin, etc Group B: Baroda v Punjab at Vadodara Karnataka v Orissa at Bangalore U. Pradesh v H. Pradesh at Kanpur Group A: Gujarat v Bengal at Ahmedabad Mumbai v Assam at Mumbai Saurashtra v Delhi at Rajkot Tamil Nadu v Railways at Chennai Adithya Sagar, in place for Vinay Kumar, picks up a couple of wickets for Karnataka.

Manhas confident of Delhi's chances against Saurashtra More... Manhas confident of Delhi's chances Special Correspondent RAJKOT: Mithun Manhas is a firm believer in players feeling comfortable enough with their captain to be able to express themselves fully on the field. The Delhi skipper, leading the team in the fourth Ranji Trophy Super League match against Saurashtra, does not like captains who impose themselves on the squad. “Players will feel restricted if a team leader is very dominant. I think players should feel comfortable under a captain. Only then can players freely express themselves on the field.” After three drawn league games and seven points, Delhi need to push for victory to make an impact in Group A. The captain is happy with the bunch under him, heading into an away game at a new venue: the Khanderi stadium in various stages of construction. “He is not disturbed by draws against Tamil Nadu and Gujarat, after Delhi had grabbed first innings lead in both. “We had one bad day in the three games so far, Bengal scoring 300-plus for two wickets on the first day. We were always in control against TN, then our bowlers almost dismissed Gujarat twice (71 all out and 289 for nine). If the game against Gujarat had lasted full four days and not been affected by other factors, we would have won outright. The collective show by our bowlers was praiseworthy.” Notwithstanding their fine display with bat and ball, Delhi were unable to walk away with full points against Gujarat at the Kotla last week. However, Mithun Manhas’s side will need to get over the disappointment of failing to bowl out the opposition on the final day as they take on Saurashtra in an Elite Group A match from today. While batting has been the team's mainstay this Ranji season, the Delhi bowlers looked venomous at the Kotla under overcast conditions. With Parvinder Awana expected to make a comeback after a minor injury, the pace battery of Pawan Suyal, Pradeep Sangwan and Sumit Narwal looks ready to go for the kill from the onset. Off-spinner Vikas Mishra too would look to share the burden at the Khanderi Cricket Stadium here. As has been the case for some time, Delhi's reliance on their top and middle order continues and even Virat Kohli's absence, on account of national duty, is not likely to change the norm. Shikhar Dhawan and Yogesh Nagar have proved their abilities time and again, and the Saurashtra bowlers could run into rough weather. The meteorological department has predicted rain and generally cloudy conditions over the next few days but the hosts will have their eyes firmly set on their opponents rather than the sky. Two draws and a loss to Gujarat means not many are banking on them to win. Delhi will miss Virat Kohli's presence in the batting order. All-rounder Rajat Bhatia is recovering from injury. Rains over the last two days and wet outfield may delay the start and curtail Delhi's pursuit of an outright win. India Test players Cheteshwar Pujara and Jaydev Unadkat may strengthen the Saurashtra squad for the four-day tie commencing on Wednesday, according to a Saurashtra Cricket Association official. Ravindra Jadeja will miss the fourth Ranji tie after being listed among one-day probables for the New Zealand series. The home team is at the bottom in Group A with two points from three games. The teams (from): Delhi: Mithun Manhas (capt), S. Dhawan, U. Chand, Y. Nagar, A. Jain, S. Narwal, P. Sangwan, P. Suyal, P. Bisht (wk), Vikas Mishra, P. Awana, M. Chauhan, M. Tehlan, A. Julka and G. Chhabra. Coach: Manoj Prabhakar. Saurashtra: Jaydev Shah (capt), S. Kotak, C. Pathak, S. Jogiyani, C. Pujara, P. Mehta, R. Dhruve, K. Makwana, S. Jackson, J. Unadkat, J. Odedara, V. Joshi, S. Maniar, B. Chauhan, J. Bhatti. Coach: D.N. Mitra. Umpires: Amish Saheba, N. Nandan. Match Referee: Pronob Roy .

TN is favourite in TamilNadu-Railway tie More... TN is favourite Special Correspondent Tamil Nadu will play Railways in a fourth-round Group ‘A' match in the Ranji Trophy Super League here at IIT-Chemplast from Wednesday. The host, currently second in the group with nine points from three games, will hope that the inclement weather that forced it to abandon both practice sessions ahead of the game clears up. Tamil Nadu starts favourite despite missing the services of R. Ashwin, part of the Indian ODI squad, and Railways showing encouraging signs against Mumbai. Ashwin's absence will be offset by the return of seamer L. Balaji, who has recovered from a thigh strain. “Ashwin's absence will hurt us a bit,” said Tamil Nadu batting coach P.C. Prakash. “But hopefully Bala's comeback will make up for it. Besides (seamers) Ganapathy and Yomahesh have bowled well, and (seamer) Sunil Sam has looked good as well.” Five bowlers Prakash said Tamil Nadu would continue with five bowlers. The composition of the bowling unit, he said, would be decided after determining the moisture content of the wicket on Wednesday. Assessing the first three games, Prakash said: “We've been shaping up well. The win against Assam was creditable. It was then good to have a correction against Delhi. The batting didn't click in one innings. It's better to have that early in the season so we can work on it.” Prakash said Railways was a tough opponent, and that being ranked seventh of eight teams after three rounds wasn't an accurate reflection of the side's quality. “Their batting hasn't really clicked, but T.P. Singh, Yere Goud, and Sanjay Bangar have lots of experience,” said Prakash. “In bowling, they'll miss (off-spinner Kulamani) Parida (who has retired), but (captain and left-arm spinner) Murali Kartik is always one to watch out for.” Kartik, who shares the top spot on the bowling table with Ashwin (16 wickets), will seek to inspire his side to play at the level it managed against Mumbai, when it ran the defending champion close before losing by two wickets. The teams: Tamil Nadu: Dinesh Karthik (capt. & wk), Abhinav Mukund, S. Anirudha, K.B. Arun Karthick, S. Badrinath, R. Sathish, Ganapathy Chandrasekar, V. Yomahesh, M. Prabhu, L. Balaji, R. Aushik Srinivas, K. Shri Vasudeva Das, R. Suthesh, V. Arun Kumar, and Sunil Sam. Railways: Murali Kartik (capt.), V. Cheluvaraj, M. Suresh, Sanjay Bangar, T.P. Singh, Y. Goud, Harshad Rawale, M. Rawat (wk), Faiz Fazal, S. Gehlot, V. Tokas, Jai P. Yadav, Nilesh Chauhan, and Anureet Singh.

Weather casts shadow over UP-Himachal tie Hosts Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh are in a fix as their Elite Group B Ranji Trophy match, beginning here on Wednesday, has run into bad weather. More... Weather casts shadow over UP tie Sharad Deep Kanpur, November 24, 2010 Hosts Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh are in a fix as their Elite Group B Ranji Trophy match, beginning here on Wednesday, has run into bad weather. Light but continuous drizzle since Tuesday morning made things difficult for the teams as the practice pitches at the Green Park Stadium were unplayable. "Let's see what happens tomorrow," said UP skipper, Mohd Kaif. "We had our plans for HP, but now everything depends on the weather. Still, we aren't going to take things lightly despite the resounding win against Baroda last week," he said. Though Kaif did not elaborate on the team's strengths, he appeared worried about the fielding. The bowling duo of Sudeep Tyagi and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar managed to anchor UP's maiden outright season win despite several crucial dropped catches. Besides middle-order bat Parvinder Singh, who has so far scored 183 runs from three matches, Bhuvaneshwar (137 runs, 10 wickets, two matches) has done well with both bat and ball. But the rest, including Kaif, will need to work hard to keep team's momentum going.

Karnataka primed for Orissa battle More... Karnataka primed for Orissa battle Special Correspondent Bangalore: After a minor stumble against Haryana at Rohtak, Karnataka hopes to regain its momentum against Orissa in the Ranji Trophy Super League Group B match that will commence at the Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Wednesday. Both teams have been well served by the seamers so far and the tinge of grass on the pitch will offer further encouragement. Karnataka (6 pts) however will miss its captain R. Vinay Kumar, who will play for India in the ODI series against New Zealand. Ganesh Satish will step in as captain and the vacuum left by Vinay's absence in the pace department is expected to be filled by Aditya Sagar. The rookie pacer will back-up the efforts of Abhimanyu Mithun and S. Arvind while Sunil Joshi will continue to be the lead spinner. The host's batsmen have had varying shades of success with Robin Uthappa and Amit Verma warming up well with a century each. Having started well with an eight-wicket victory over Punjab at Mohali, Karnataka struggled in the first innings against Joginder Sharma's swing that ensured that Haryana stayed ahead in the battle for first innings honours. Vinay's men then gave a better account with the bat and scored 409 in the second innings but by then the damage was done. “The players are all eager and yes we will play three seamers,” said Ganesh Satish. Karnataka is not taking any chances against minnows Orissa (4 pts). The visitor started its campaign with a first innings lead against Baroda before conceding the advantage to UP. The bowling has been seam-driven with the Mohantys — Debashish and Basanth — being the lead pair. For Karnataka, inspiration is not far to seek as the match's immediate backdrop is the election of Anil Kumble and Javagal Srinath as the KSCA's President and Secretary respectively. Srinath even bowled a few overs in the nets while he turned the clock back. The teams: Karnataka: Ganesh Satish (captain), Robin Uthappa, Sunil Joshi, A. Mithun, C.M. Gautam (wicket-keeper), S. Arvind, K.B. Pawan, Manish Pandey, K.L. Rahul, Stuart Binny, Udit Patel, Aditya Sagar, S.L. Akshay, Amit Verma and Azghar Pasha. Coach: K. Sanath Kumar. Orissa: S.S. Das (captain), Debashish Mohanty, Natraj Behera, Niranjan Behera, Sudip Biswal, Rakesh Kishore Mohanty, Biplab Samantray, Govinda Poddar, Basanta Mohanty, Alok Sahoo, Bikash Pati, Subhrajit Sahoo (wicket-keeper), Paresh Patil, Ansuman Gope, Santosh Jena and Dhirajkumar Singh. Coach: M. R. Ray .

Many news say that Pujara and Unadkat are back for Saurashtra. If they are, it will be really good. Haryana is not playing this round or else Mishra would have been playing too. Unfortunately, Vijay is still stuck with ODIs or else some FC cricket would have done him world of good before the test series. Anyways, all eyes on Unadkat and Yadav and also Saha. Let us see how they do.

I do not think Vidarbha has a game in this round and to me, he maybe injured right now because he only bowled 11 over for 1/22 in the last ranji game for vidarbha out of over 100 overs

Wasim Jaffer’s boys take on Assam, led by Amol Muzumdar in a Ranji tie More... Wasim Jaffer’s boys take on Assam, led by Amol Muzumdar in a Ranji tie Published: Wednesday, Nov 24, 2010, By Derek Abraham | Place: Mumbai | Agency: DNA After eking out a tense two-wicket victory over Railways the other day, the defending champions would want nothing less than an outright win when they take on Assam in a Group ‘A’ tie from Wednesday. The good news is that both vice-captain Ajit Agarkar and Abhishek Nayar are fit. Jaffer has a sore throat but will take the field. Winning is a good habit and Mumbai would look to extend their lead. Well, a Mumbai-Assam encounter can never be previewed as ‘mouth-watering’. But this one, to be played at the Bandra-Kurla Complex, could end up being just that. If not the entire match, at least a sub-plot is worth an attention. Enter Amol Muzumdar: A product of Mumbai’s maidans, a champion batsman, run accumulator and above all Ranji Trophy-winning skipper. It’s not often that a player with no international experience enhances so much interest in a first class game, but that’s Muzumdar and his pedigree. For someone who left the city for not-so-green pastures, the 37-year-old is a connoisseur’s delight. Technically sound and a perfectionist, he single-handedly led Assam’s resurgence and promotion to the Super League last year. So is he all set for a battle with his former mates? “I am here to enjoy my time,” Muzumdar said. “I have told my boys that this tour of Mumbai could be an education in itself. They can learn from this match. This is Mumbai, not any other side.” And does he expect to be a target of Mumbai’s khadoos attitude? “Just watch and you’ll know,” he said with a wry smile. Like a Mumbai player put it, “Knowing the fierce competitor that Amol is, he would love to score a hundred against us.” That is Muzumdar for you. It’s now or never for comeback man Nayar Abhishek Nayar’s brisk walk to the practice pitch was a stark contrast to the cloudy, lazy day at the Bandra Kurla Complex on Tuesday. Walking a few paces behind Rohit Sharma, confidante and team-mate, Nayar had a few agendas on his mind. As the best friends batted on adjacent pitches against paltry net bowlers, the intensity in Nayar’s eyes was there for all to see. Coming back into the Mumbai line-up from an ankle injury just before their fourth Ranji Trophy clash against Assam, Nayar had a lot on his mind: a depressingly forgettable season mired with a range of injuries. And as Sharma egged him on with a few quiet words of encouragement from the neighbouring net area, Nayar found his stride quickly. The left-handed batsman is now hoping to continue the new-found form against the visiting Assamese at home. “It is really disturbing that you can’t do much but to sit and wait for the injuries to recover. It was very frustrating. I wanted to perform to come back into the reckoning, but injuries ensured that I couldn’t find batting form,” Nayar said. So, Nayar has decided to start from scratch against Amol Muzumdar’s side. “I know only a big score can bring back me to notice, especially at a time when so many guys are competing for recognition,” he added. After missing out on almost the entire last season, including the third season of the Indian Premier League, Nayar wants to start afresh and also refresh the memories of the national selectors. “Memory is short-lived in a sport like cricket in India. I know that one day I will make a comeback again. My heart says it is not yet over, I will give my best shot here on.” Come Wednesday, Assam will be the first of many opportunities.
