The same ball with which Zaheer was getting a lot of reverse swing towards the end of Day 1, was hardly doing anything on day 2? How do you explain this? Some factors to consider: - Weather ( I think the conditions were more or less the same) - Ball out of shape? I recall the Indians referring the ball to the umpires - maybe a bit far-fetched but all the first day's saliva dried up and you have work on the ball again What happened, any thoughts?

The shine on one side is not maintained obviously and it would be tough to get reverse swing from it. Correct me if I am wrong.
kabira Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 well he was still getting reverse swing, he had right handers on the strike, did beat both Paine and Watson. Watson edged one but never carried. He just bowled 3 over spell in the morning. May be Dhoni was considering new ball then.

True, it was changed in the 98th over but there was a brief period of about 3 overs that Zaheer bowled and there wasnt anything in those overs except for maybe some slight movement when Watson edged one to Dhoni. And after this, Zak and others were talking to the umpires about the condition of the ball and he stopped bowling after the initial 3 over burst. If there was any substantial reverse, I reckon Zaheer would've bowled a couple more overs but was replaced by Ojha. Maybe too small a window to compare but the question still remains, does this happen quite often? The same ball reverse swinging the previous day and in the morning does nothing. If so, which factors contribute to this phenomenon ?
