Batsman with runner and obstructing the field

Laxmans long innings in the first test with a runner brought a interesting question What happens if the batsmen(Laxman) with a runner hits the ball and after hitting the ball is covering the stumps, fielder has a shy at the stumps and hits the batsman (Laxman) as he is obstructing the stumps and the runner is out of his ground. Would this be given out under obstructing the field rule. This almost happened when laxman was batting and he got out of the way of the throw. Thats had me thinking about this question?

No idea what the law says, but this shouldn’t be too complicated – VVS is out. Just like how the batsmen can be declared out if he wanders out of the crease and the fielder hits the stumps even though the runner made his ground, the situation is pretty similar here. The fielder has only one set of stumps to aim at the striker’s end and if someone is blocking that, whether it be the batsmen or the runner (highly unlikely scenario), he should be declared out.

I dont think it is that cut and dry. Batsman without runner steps out and in a attempt to regain ground is blocking the stumps and the ball hits him then he wont be declared out. So if what u say is true in case of runner this would be slightly different Case 1> both in crease and blocking stumps not out Case 2> Runner or batsman out of crease and either one blocking stumps -- out obstructing. I wonder if the rule book has this scenerio.

Well, runner can walk in line of stumps, thats pretty legitimate. But here batsman is not a runner, Laxman has to move away from the stumps after playing the shot. This can be very complicated.
