Inspired by Bhajji, Chawla also working on batting 25 November 2010 Kanpur: Inspired by Harbhajan Singh, who slammed back-to-back Test hundreds despite coming in at number eight, discarded Indian leg-spinner Piyush Chawla says he is also working hard on his batting to make his case for a return to the national side. Feisty off-spinner Harbhajan was picked Man of the Series in the recently-concluded Test series against New Zealand for his consecutive hundreds and fine bowling. India won the series 1-0 after two draws. Chawla said he is trying hard for a comeback to the national team and is even improving his batting for the purpose. "If Indian selectors find my performance worthwhile, then I can hope for a comeback for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 in the sub-continent," the Uttar Pradesh bowler, who is here for a Ranji Trophy match against Himachal Pradesh, told PTI-Bhasha. Chawla said the Indian team needs a leg-spinner. "I have been out for a long time now. I play Twenty20 and Ranji but I have to continue working hard to come back to the national side because playing at that level is a matter of pride," he said.

Piyush is a good lad. Some outstanding performances with the ball in all formats and maybe he could replace Ravi. The ascend to the top to replace a surety in our World Cup squad is a task. But Piyush can do it if he applies himself.
