Will the gap in fielding standards make a difference to the India-SA tour? South African fielding is far superior - in all respects - catching/slip catching, groundfielding, run-outs etc. I know this is a traditional difference, nothing new. We all know this, and it has always existed. But in a close series, do you think this difference may get highlighted in terms of the end results? Will catches (and runouts) win matches?

When does dropping catches doesn't make a difference? That's just to begin with.

Ground fieldin yes, but you can't say that we are inferior to them in catching. Specially the slip catching. We have the 2 best slip fielders Laxman and Dravid. And sachin is also very safe at slip. All in all though they do have the upper hand in fielding with the natural athleticism.

This. Was quite evident in the Paki series, messed up quite a few catches.

yeah mate...as long as they can hold on to their catches i will be happy abt the fielding as we know how much could a drop catch cost

We have to ensure we donr drop catches. Ground fielding may be bad but as long as we are taking all the catches, I think we will do well. Ask the Aussies, 11 drop catches in 3 innings of the Ashes!! (They have taken only 16 wickets in these 3 innings so far).
