Tendulkar signs two-year deal with Castrol as brand ambassador

NEW DELHI: India senior batsman Sachin Tendulkar has signed a two year deal with Castrol as their brand ambassador. "I am really excited about this partnership with Castrol since they are one of the world's great brands and have the same passion for performance that I have on the field," Sachin said. "Their oils are known for consistently delivering under extreme pressure situations, again something I am quite familiar with. I am also very passionate about motorsport with which Castrol has been associated for over a century. So to me, this partnership seems to be the perfect fit," he added. Sachin joins an illustrious list of Castrol Brand Ambassadors who over the years have included legends such as Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham, Rahul Dravid and Adam Gilchrist. Sachin will be the face of Castrol cricket initiatives that will revolve around the passion, innovation and technology that go behind delivering "Winning Performances" as well as promoting Castrol's leading brands like Castrol Power1, Activ and GTX.

This is relevant to us fans only in that it gives us a clue as to how long Sachin hopes to keep playing the game. All the tell-tale signs are pointing to him being around for ATLEAST another 2-3 years. Not only has he inked this sponsorship deal with Catrol, the Mumbai Indians have invested a huge amount, retaining him for 3 more years. He doesn’t play international T20s anyway and the way in which he sort of took a temporary sabbatical from ODIs for nearly a year, especially after scoring that double 100, tells us that he has pretty much come to the end of Limited Overs Internationals (ODIs and T20s) career and was simply metering his body out, for one last push at WC glory. There’s an excellent chance he will retire from ODIs altogether after the WC, whatever be its outcome, and simply stick to playing test cricket and representing Mumbai in the IPL, which seems to be very close to his heart.
