HELP! Need Career Advice!

hey guys, all my career choices till now have gone down the drain. i dropped out 2 years ago to pursue a career which i later realized was just not worth it.right now, i just have HSC as my last qualification and have completely lost interest in studies/college. i As of now, only call center / BPO seems to be the way to go. but the timings are awful. i dont mind staying up all night...completely prepared to struggle my way up. just wanna ask..is there any future in BPOs or should i look for something else. i know am a newbie here but would really appreciate it if you guys could help me out. cheers kartik

It's never too late to go to college. Call center jobs are good when you need to make ends meet, but they have pretty much no growth, so not a career option if you ask me.

The first thing to do is go back and resume studies. Find a job (call center or something else) if you need money, but you should try to complete your studies. May be you should determine what career you want to pursue now. Do a complete research and select one career and then plan your studies accordingly. For example, if you want to get into fashion designing, a separate professional course might be helpful. Good luck.

Listen mate, nobody likes what they do for a living all the time. Sometimes, i just i which i could quit and go back to school and learn something i would love to do. but then, i thought i would love to do what i am doing right now 10 years back. What you need it realistic thinking. Have you seen anyone that were in your position be in a position you envy? If yes and you think you can do it, then emulate them.If yes but you dont want to do it, then forget it. Go back to school. If no, then go back to school. I know in India, it is seen as a bad thing when you go back to school, but in the rest of the world it is common. Yeah, 4 years of working hard seems rough, but it is 4 years of hard work for 35 years of happiness. I wish i had done things differently in school. If you can, then do it.

Go back to college dude and get some education/qualification behind you, ideally on a subject or course that you're interested in pursuing as a career. Call centre work isn't a career, you will kick yourself for not taking on further qualifications and getting a job you enjoy a couple of years down the line.

Why are so many people against call-centers? Obviously they have no idea how call centers are in India and never even been in one. Being in Bangalore I know of many people who started with call centers and in the same companies are in a much higher post than IITians and MBAs

Hi kartik I would advise you to go for some more studies at least. Get a degree through correspondence if you do not want to attend college now. But a degree is needed just as a backup even if you work in call center or any industry. BPO is not bad though I am not sure about the long run as a career. Growth in BPO would happen very soon compared to other industries but then they also would need at least a graduation or even an MBA for higher positions especially for managerial levels. Otherwise you will see people younger than you becoming managers and you remaining an executive only with a lower salary package. Overall the salary structure would be quite good if you join a reputed BPO. But then reputed BPO like HCL, Wipro, IBM or GE jobs would not see quick growth as they are more of a stable job and hence less attrition. And they would require better degrees for higher positions and you will find even IIM and IIT degree holders in those organizations at higher positions. Even after degrees you would not be sure of growth at a very fast pace and your talent and how much business profit you can make would be more important than degrees or hard work alone. One other very good avenue is to start your own businesses if you have the talent and risk-taking appetite for the same. The lower capital investment businesses in today's date are computer based businesses which are also referred to as talent industries. Those are dependent on your talent and intelligence rather than huge capitals. To be fair enough if you enter into businesses then talent and intelligence and calculative risks would matter a lot (unless your dad or uncle is a politician when you would anyways succeed in business :woot: ). To be fair enough knowledge and talent are the biggest powers and besides taking a degree try to garner as much knowledge in all possible fields as you can. Try to learn new things everyday and work on improving your skills and knowledge in every field possible. You can succeed by any means but talent, intelligence and knowledge has no substitute. If you are clever and talented enough you will succeed in any field. You need to be one out of the herd to succeed as everyone else will be following the herd. That is what differentiates a successful from a not so successful person. Hope that helps. EDIT: Forgot to suggest one more career opportunity. If you have the risk taking appetite and if you good at calculative predictions with a good monetary base then you can also try your hands at the stock market. If you have the funds then property investment business is not bad too. There are many earning larger than life profits from various investments too. Warren Buffet is an example. :P

1. You could go for B.Ed n take a JBT test for govt school teaching. 2. You could graduate in any stream i guess n then go for bank PO exams. Please do more research on both the options. always be in positive frame of mind. All the best

hmmm.....i guess the best scenario right now is to join a BPO and enroll into a distant education uni for the "Oh-so-requirred-or-you'll-starve-to-death" graduation. anyone recommend any good distant education UNIs in india ? except for IGNOU. thats one CRAP goverment organization!
