This is an amazing victory. Durban may be the second most difficult condition especially for a team from the subcontinent after perth. if you remember 1996, we were bowled out for 100 and 74 at this very ground.SA also made totals only in the 220-240 region. they probably wanted a repeat of our earlier humiliations at this ground which have been plenty, none so much depressing than the 1996 disaster. waqar and akthar helped pakistan win here twice but the unlikely hero in 1998 was azhar mahmood who lashed the SA attack with the bat! showing the SA attack of those days could have been taken apart if we had been more positive and initiative oriented. infact warne said aussies regarded the SA as essentially a one dimensional attack with a single plan and thrashed them at will. Only azharuddin struck some blows in the 1996-97 season starting with a surprise attack in calcutta. In more reasonable batting conditions, they should not hesitate to attack the bowlers. After perth, this is the second everest conquered in terms of adverse conditions.

Pakistan won there once...that too by 29 runs...It was great effort..But in 2002 they lost badly...Their second win was in Port Elizabeth. In Durban, Waqar just took 4 wickets..It was Mustaq Ahmed who was man of the match...

actually india came pretty close to a win at Johannesburg in 1996 when rain affected final day and a cullinan-klusener partnership prevnted the inevitable. and also durban has the steep bounce that is most similar to perth and hence far more disconcerting. "are you kidding? Pakistan won there once...that too by 29 runs...It was great effort..But in 2002 they lost badly...Their second win was in Port Elizabeth. In Durban, Waqar just took 4 wickets..It was Mustaq Ahmed who was man of the match..." i didn't check closely.just typing from raw memory. by that time of 1998, i was in USA and not following matches on TV.hence i am likely to be more fallible.
