Well I follow county cricket closely and I'm a member at Middlesex CC. He will easily get a contract for a division 2 club atleast. Some of the internationals aren't that special these days. A lot of test discards around. Even Zak was unfit and in piss poor form back in 06 and got a division 2 contract. Players like Sree, Ishant, Pathan etc would get one if they try.

Last year, Piyush Chawla [ Images ] (Sussex), Irfan Pathan (Essex and Yorkshire), S Sreesanth (Warwickshire), Ishant Sharma (Kent and Hampshire), Amit Mishra (Worcestershire) and Virender Sehwag (Northamptonshire) evoked interest from the counties, but were forced to turn down offers as BCCI refused to give them the NOCs. Obviously, no county is going to look at an Indian player for a season long contract. No wonder no Indian player was approached this year when counties were looking for overseas players. As for Irfan getting a div 2 club contract, we are in mid season now, counties have finalised their overseas contracts and there are no paces to be grabbed. The only way Irfan or other Indian players can get a short term contract is through injuries of overseas players or some of them going for national duty (Like Maharoof has been called to the Lankan team opening up a place at Lancashire). Give this scenario, there's nothing wrong in Irfan saying yes to a t20 contract. It could open up further opportunities if things go well.

That is a different issue altogether. My point is that the Indian seamers who have played with reasonable success would not have an issue with getting a contract if they tried. Over a month into the CC. Much harder now but spots open up due to various reasons. Does Pathan really want it? Talks that he is also planning to play the T20 in SL as well.

Hopefully Irfan gets his groove back. Lets never forget his awesome spell in 2007 T20 finals against Pakistan. Much better for India to have a problem of too many options than too few options!

Since he was dropped the team, he went back to domestic cricket and did decently. In the 2008-09 season, played 5 matches, 22 wickets@18 and 222 runs@37 and then in the 2009-10 season played 7 matches 31 wikets@20 and 465 runs@39. Just when he was getting back to his rhythm he suffered an injury and was out of the game for 9-10 months. BCCI not allowing him to play county cricket has also hampered his comeback bid. But towards the later stages of the IPL, he showed that he still has that bana swing. Needs to push the speed slightly and he could be the same bowler he once was. A fit Irfan, bowling with that swing, will walk into our ODI bowling line up even now.

Irfan?.. He doesnt have that physique any more to be termed as an international fast bowler. He doesnt have that talent to score big in intls also.. Shed some weight, get some pace,..You are welcome, Irfan..
