achilles Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Feel sorry for Sreesanth. But justice will be done. Even Sourav Ganguly had to pay for all the wrong he did when he was at the helm of affairs. Dhoni might have some pretty grey days ahead in his career, not only coz he's blatantly biased at times but also because he plays too much politics which has the potential of destroying careers. Sree should've been picked. Mishra/Ojha should've been picked. He groomed Jadeja for a year and the moment Ashwin graduated to the ODI team, he threw Jadeja out of the team as if he were a piece of garbage being thrown into a trash-can! Life is gonna come full-circle very soon for MS.

I also wouldn't like him to blow his head off under a pressure situation, which he is very much prone too. WC is big pressure games...if Dhoni does not perform or if his team does not perform then I see him quitting by the end of it. Nehra and Chawla are really the surprise selections. Chawla is no good and Nehra is on/off kind of cricketer. Hate his body language...seems not interested at all. Does not play domestic cricket.
Zelig Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Once he started I dont think he even stopped to take a breath. Kept going and going like Amitabh of Namakhalal :wall: That's how we Southies do . We go beserk until all our body fluids are lost and then call it "quits" :eyedance:

Fact is we need a fast bowler who can ball at 140km/h ,Sreesanth was by far the best indian fast bowler in india vs nz odis eries and his overrate was fine.It is politics why would dhoni not play sree in the final match in centurion even if nehra was crap throughout the series fearing a good performance from sree might lead to a backlash.

Its the selection of the team for the most important tournament in cricket and we need players in whom the captain has full confidence. Now if Dhoni does not have full confidence in Sreesanth (due to whatever reasons) then he's completely right in selecting Nehra. As for grooming Jadeja, that guy should'nt have been brought in the team in the first place, so the faster he was dropped from the team the better. Chawla's selection is the one that baffles me as well. He has'nt done anything spectacular in the last few months to deserve a place. We certainly could have done with a reserve keeper (India is the only major team to have no reserve keeper in the squad) in the squad.

I think Dhoni has smartly much cut competition. I don't even remember the last time we went for a tour with a reserve keeper since Dhoni took over. Karthik has been banished, Uthappa has vanished, Saha was picked maybe coz MS wasn't 100% fit and since then, we haven't heard of anyone coming close to getting picked. Its ridiculous for a team to go in for a World Cup without a reserve keeper and the justification had "cover-up" written all over it. Chawla's selection, continually ignoring the significance of a spare keeper, selective pickings et al... Dhoni plays a good game.

I think you are trying to see to much out of Chawla's selection (or rather the omission of a wicket keeper). Certainly this decision of not having a reserve keeper is a perplexing one but IMO its not a "game" played by Dhoni because he is by far the best wicket keeper batsman in the country so I really don't see what problem he could have with PaPa or Kartikh etc. The thinking behind this decision might have been the fact that the World Cup is being held in the subcontinent so if there is a need for a reserve keeper, he would be available at short notice.

Doing so selectively is what I have an issue with.
rohitsilhi Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 ohja should be their instead of chawla. chawla is too expensive for run rate keeping down.
