He gives the team an extra dimension, he has the ability to score big consistently. Yuvraj has been out of form and Raina has been playing well at number 6 and his fielding gives him the edge too. Gambhir will surely play given his batting and fielding prowess. Unless Yuvraj fires in the warm up games and in the early matches, he will be dropped. Raina, Yusuf and Gambhir all deserve a place in the starting 11. Yuvraj is too risky at number 6 and I highly doubt India will play his up the order, which means either Kohli or Dhoni will play at number 6 which is a waste.

Although I do agree MSD will go for both Yuvi anf Raina and drop Kohli, no matter how hot he might be right now; just the easier way out for him! UV is an all-rounder if you didn't know. if you take out UV from the equation then you need a 5th specialist bowler therefore Kohli would still be benched. It doesn't make sense Just like I said earlier, you can not replace a hitter with a stroke player. Also, you can not replace an all-rounder for a batsman. It's unfortunate on Kohli's part. He will definitely find a spot as soon as Sachin retires (god forbid).

One guy has the time to settle down and is expected to anchor the innings. Kohli always starts slow and only accelerates towards the end. For Raina, its always jet set go, and he more often then not, delivers. For everyone who wants Raina to be dropped, who do you think is going to deliver the knockout punch in overs 35-50 Yuvraj is woeful form, Dhoni no chance, Yusuf possible, but not very reliable. Raina is critical to that 30-40 extra runs in the end overs, which will make the difference between victory and defeat. It would be unfair to Raina to expect him to average 40+ average at a fixed no.6 spot. If somebody is expecting no.6 and no.7 batsman like Raina and YP to average 40+ at their respective positions then either they are fooling themselves or do not know properly about cricket. Especially when neither Raina nor YP has ever been promoted up the order to an opener' date=' no.2 and no.3 even when half the team is injured. They hardly get benefit of PP overs, they have to play under pressure always as a lot of wickets fall till they arrive and the team is mostly under critical situations and to add to that they do not even get to bat in a lot of their matches or only get to bat a few balls. So, how do you expect them to perform anything comparable to Gauti, Veeru, Kohli or for that matter even UV or Dhoni. Give them a break. They are always kept down the order irrespective of circumstances and injuries to other players and newbies are given better positions than them and most of Raina's critics still want him to average 40+ and that sounds ridiculous. I am a great fan of Veeru but to be frank if Raina or YP would have been given opening positions then maybe they could have also hit centuries and blast the opposition like Veeru or maybe even do better than him. Many of the fans here need to understand that a fixed no.6 or no.7 cannot hit 100s or 50s that easily as compared to a top order or even a middle order batsman as they hardly get opportunities or benefits available to top order batsman. It would be unfair to say Raina must be dropped as he has been the best ODI no.6 in the world. Either UV or Raina will be dropped but that is because there is scarcity of batting positions and not due to talent. UV in in a lot worse form compared to Raina but he might get benefit due to his bowling but I still think Raina would be able to handle in Indian pitches better than UV in their current forms. I would have demoted MSD to no.7 and told him to start practicing his helicopter shots once again so that he can become a finisher again. I would promote both Raina and YP at least one step up in the batting order as MSD has not done anything to deserve a better batting position than the two of them.[/quote']

Ranjha Posted January 25, 2011 Author Posted January 25, 2011 Yuvraj is a big impact player and provides more value..Yuvi can bat at multiple positions too and he is a confidence player and if he gets going in first or second wc game, he will be unstoppable and his bowlijg will be super useful in India..We can easily get hammered for extra 20-30 runs without a good part time bowler. Only time raina should replace yuvi is if yuvi fails in first or second odi game. Then sure bring raina in....raina is very low in confidence and I am not sure if he can bat like te beginning of last year anymore..Yuvi has been looling determined when batting recently and except last 2 odis, he was looling good with the way he was striking the ball. He knows it very well this will be his last chance in odis for redemption and he wont let it go. For his bowling and even 20-30 runs while batting will add more value to the teams objectives.

I have time to waste..:d Yuvi did well in wc2003, wc2007(for whatever ganes we played), wct20 2007, wct20 2009. Only third wct20 he failed like everyone else.

If we progress further in the wc, I am sure everyone will get a chance to play cuz there is bound to be niggles or injury concerns. Only thing is if India win all their games then they might not wanna do any changes if no injuries.
