I also mentioned it in the match thread .. I hope the era of world domination has started like the Aussies of the 2000s .. there are quite a lot of similarities including achieving both the no.1 test rankings and WC at the same time .. the only missing link was our bowling and I like the way Munaf has emerged in recent times to support Zak .. Spin is still a strength IMO and we just need to try out our bench like Ashwin and Ojha and give some rest to Bhajji .. we have started the world domination and just need to think and play wisely

we will own in ODIs, thats for sure. because even without tendulkar, this team has the strength and the quality to beat anyone. but in test matches, i see a short term decline. dravid, tendulkar and laxman are going to be very difficult to replace. england will take india's no.1 ranking within the next 2 years, if not earlier. but once pujara, kohli, rahane, etc. start finding their feet in test cricket, we'll be back at the top. india needs to manage the transistion properly

I agree that India will be a competitive ODI side for years to come, as it has the innings builders & power hitters backed by a decent bowling & fielding unit. But we should be kidding ourselves if we think, Kohli, Rahane, Pujara & the likes can replace any of our greats - however many years they might play. Not to mention, the loss of Zaheer Khan, who is also on the wrong side of his 30s. I think India will win tests at home, but will struggle for years in foreign conditions.

i disagree, those young guns are talented and can do what some of the seniors have done. india is a batting nation, we will always produce the best batsmen. look at how india came up with tendulkar just 2 years after the greatest opener ever, Sunny G retired. and then how india came up with virender sehwag right after a great middle order batsman like azhar got banned.

^^ That was true about a decade back. But these days youngsters are highly distracted by the lures of IPL. Rohit Sharma is a classic example - a boatload of talent gone waste. I dont believe many Indian youngsters will be interested in playing the longer version, leave alone excelling in it.

rohit has been crap in ODIs. personally, i think his game is better suited to tests. the guy always scores big runs in FC for mumbai. he knows how to play the long innings and has the shots in the book. he isnt cut out for the ODIs. so writing him off at this stage (remember he is 22) will come back to bite u in the ass a few years from now. i would like to agree re: the IPL, but i think indian cricket has a standard to maintain and kids will know what comes with being an india player. becoming an IPL player isnt the finish line.

The Indian era has well and truly arrived. We are currently the best side in the World and if some of our youngsters (Kohli, Pujara, Rahane, Rohit Sharma etc ) take their game to the nest level then certainly we can be a dominant force in World cricket for some time.

It's going to be interesting.. The last few years (since Aussies decline) there hasn't really been a distinct number one side, but now I think you can safely say India are the best. The only problem for them is, how they cope with retirements of key players. I think they will still be fine without them, but as good? Probably not. Any side that loses Tendulkar will weaken.
